I want to submit a couple of articles to article directories in hopes of getting a few backlinks but can I use those same articles on my website afterward? Will they be duplicate material even if the link points towards the domain where I will put those articles?
What if I put these articles on my website just before google indexes the articles I submitted?

You should rewrite the articles to make them unique. Be sure to change the title also.

So tell me, why arent article websites punished.

Because the dupe content stuff is way in the past. It all has to do that you don't have content from one single source.

Just try to make a news site with one source. Ill guarantee you you'll be gone from G within a month.

Pull your feeds in from 5 sites and you will not.

I have a dozen of news content sites and aprox 20 autoblogs.

Never had one go diying on me due to dupe content, and they all are well ranked.

Because they are large websites that earned go0gles trust? I don't that you will get punished for using dupe content but you won't be ranking very well either if you are a new website.

I'm not worried about getting punished because that will most likely not happen. I'm worried about not getting an advantage.
The reason I'm asking this is because one of my competitors ranked #1 with a new website and a couple of backlinks from article directories until his host decided to ban him (LOL).
I think he got some kind of an advantage from being indexed by links from article directories.
Maybe when go0gle indexed those articles, followed the links and found the same content on his website, g0ogle thought that the high PR article directory took the articles from his site. That made that website "important" and thats why he ranked #1.

Getting a bit tired of the 'dupe content' BS

I did what you were asking in the first place in the past and nothing happened.

@OP: Just wait until the article directories have listed your articles. When it's done you can place the same articles on your own sites. You don't have to change them.

Get new content for your website rather than posting it first on directories and then rewriting it. New and fresh content can get quality backlinks.
