Backlinking w/ Websites From Same Host

I know that when you share website hosting the IP address of that host is also shared. So my question is if the IP addresses are shared are these websites with separate domains and all treated as though they were within the same website by a Google crawler?

Websites linking to other websites w/ the same ip won't pass pagerank or linkjuice. That's the short answer.. anyone else feel free to chime in and elaborate.

I Got a question, is it also ok to have 2 or 3 or more sites, from the same hosting accounts, with the same IP. Would google see the 3 sites, or would they be penalized for coming from the same IP??

You're gonna hear a lot of semi-facts from non-experts on this topic and most of it will be guesses.

I've had 2 sites on the same IP, on the very same hosting account rank #1 and #2 on google for
a competative term before, but the 3rd site which was also on the same account always
seemed to hover on page 2 eventhough by all measures of SEO and content it should have been
right under the first 2 or even above them.

Google will generally only show 2 pages from a certain domain for any given keyword, so it's possible
they have a similar algorithm to show 2 domains from the same IP as well. This is just my personal experience..

Can you tell us what you are concerned about? People used to set up several domains under one hosting company, and link them all together, and that combined interlinking strenghtened their network. That doesn't work anymore, and so now people sign up under several, even overseas, web hosting with different ip's.

However, you can have several sites under one web host ip, and they can all rank for whatever you want to rank for, but if you interlink them, it wont give you any benefits as far as pagerank or linkjuice. And just like bobbys said, generally, only 2 pages from a certain domain will show up. That is domain though, not web hosting ip.

There is nothing wrong with interlinking sites that share the same IP. I do it and it works well.
That being said, backlinks from different IPs will most probably give you even bigger boost in SERP.
