    Hi guys,

So I did a little searching around the forums, but I still have a question.

I'm researching my competitors right now and noticed that all of them have backlinks to their main page, but almost none of them have BLs to their inner pages. So let's say my niche is "baseball." I'll do a search for a long-tail version of that (let's say "best baseball bats") and SEMRush will show no backlinks to that page for my competitor, but a few thousand backlinks to the main front page.

So my question is, how difficult will it be for me to outrank these sites for "best baseball bats" assuming I do backlink work to a page on my site specifically for the "best baseball bats"?

From what I read so far, I think that it will be rather easy because I will be making a page that is optimized for that keyword and making backlinks for the page that focuses on that KW. Can someone confirm if I am right?

I believe you need links to both your homepage and some to your inner pages as well. It just looks more natural

I understand, but let's say I'm building links to my homepage as well. My competitors have no, or at most, about 15 backlinks to their inner pages for the long tail KWs. So if I'm building backlinks to my inner page, will I have an easier time ranking??

OK let me actually rephrase this cause readin back, it sounds like i answered my own question.

I want to know why my competitors didn't bother backlinking to a page on their site that is specifically constructed for a certain long-tail keyword? Wouldn't it be WAY easier SEO-wise to just backlink to the LT KW page than to backlink to the domain home page?

It wont be easy today because your few thousand back link "baseball" competitor probably has rather high authority in the eyes of the Giggle for "baseball" in general... hence they show page from same domain even with no apparent links even for a longer tail keywords.

I know what you are trying to do :) been there, done that, epic fail on few occasions lol... so just look for easier target.

Interior pages usually rank much better for long tail keywords/phrases than a homepage, unless the homepage was specifically optimized for that phrase and the links pointing back at it (anchor text) indicate that's what the page is about.

It depends how old site is, is it authority in niche, PR of that weak page... May be your competitor is bad at SEO. So, you could outrank this page, but not in short time.

You can't depend on your competitor's incompetence to get higher search engine ranking in Google.

i guess you must go for it i mean theres no harm putting back-links to your inner pages. and its might improve your optimization as well.
