Backlinking Strategy For BRAND NEW Site?

I've not really launched any new sites since late 2013 - early 2014 so im not wondering what a good "strategy" would be for backlinking a new site?

My old strategy for a site was (from conception to live & link building when live)

1-Decide on niche
2-Keyword Research/Competitor Analysis
3-Plan site structure in line with keyword research - money pages / blog posts
4-Buy domain (new - no age usually)
5-Write content for main money pages
6-Host site with main money pages
7-Start publishing blog posts in line with keyword research (low competition long tail search terms - interlink to main money pages
8-Create Facebook,Twitter,G+,Youtube complete profiles & link back to site
9-Manual web 2.0 creation. Complete about us/contact us page etc. Manually spin 2 quality posts, manually spin 3-5 filler posts. Link quality posts to money site.
10-Blast web 2.0's with GSA (Following Matthewwoodwards tiered link building guidance)
11-Manual forum posts, share links on reddit, comment on blog posts
12-Guest Blogging

I've never bought links and never created a PBN.

Im just wondering how this overall strategy stands up now compared to 2013/2014 and what I should be adding to my strategy or doing differently?

Well this is a pretty good strategy even for today. I would go with expired web 2.0s where possible. Also, avoid spun content, even on web 2.0s. If you have enough guest blogs, then PBNs may not even be necessary, depending on the keyword. However a few PBN links, if you need that final push, will not hurt.

A couple of manual blog comments wouldn't hurt either.

Your strategy is good. As Nargil said if you can get guest posts, then there would be no need for PBNs too.

Just use your strategy and if you still can't get on page 1, then you can get a couple of pbn links.

Have you got any recommendations (or links to resources/guides) for finding expired/aged web 2.0's? I have a few articles saved for creating PBN's - but no guides or articles looking at how to find and claim expired web 2.0s.

You can use something like domain hunter gatherer or use scrapebox to scrape tumblr and other web2.0

Basic steps include

1. Scrape list of seed keywords
2. Use it to harvest URL based on tumblr or other web2 footprint
3. Trim to root
4. Remove duplicate
5. Check for error 404
6. Check metrics using moz or majestic
7. Try register if pass

Absolutely classical evergreen strategy. I'll use it without PBN for a couple of months for maximum natural look and after those months you can use some PBN links to boost. This is of course if you cannot or don't want to use old domains, otherwise you can use the guide list from the Vsching's comment.

Lately, I've been using @LukaB 's AuraRank2 on my new sites, waiting a month or so, and then hitting the site with 10 of my own PBNs every 2 weeks until I see my desired results. Seems to be working out well.

is this possible to get expired domains on blogger weebly tripod overblog and others apart from tumbr

having min tf cf 10 pa 28

On Blogger and Overblog yes. Weebly is paid and not sure about Tripod.
