If it is entirely a news website. Here is some advice:

1. Pay attention to the link quality, not quantity

2. Pay attention to the link growth dynamic - for example, if you grow per month with 5-10 links, you should keep this dynamic every time. So essential to create a link-building strategy and understand how many links per month you can build in a usual way not to break this growth plan. As well, don`t allow any links spikes.

3. Build more social links and some brand links 1-3 month
4. Don`t use redirect links or expired domain links for the first 6-12 months, and do this in the right way and very carefully.
5. Pay attention to your anchor distribution
6. Focus more on creating quality content to attract more natural links.
7. Work on EAT factor - growing the author profile - posting some articles or external resources, developing social media accounts, etc.

Go through the forum's links marketplace, read reviews and make your purchase.

Spammy backlinks will not work good for you.
Just do natural link building and be safe
