Trying to get more information on how well this might work. I am looking to send some pbn links to the pages on sites such as bbb, yelp, fb, youtube, etc that all point to a local business website. Even though some of the links on some of those sites are no follow, they still hold the brand and nap info. Being in a hi comp market I am trying to find that extra edge. Any one tried this method?

Is this a good or bad idea?

Why would you do that. Why would you use the precious pbn links as tier 2. Just point them directly to your money site, it would be more powerful

Because you can't just point 100 pbn links to your money sites. Instead if you use them as tier 2 for strong backlinks such as lifehack.org etc, they will be safer. Of course OP will point some of pbn links to his money site, but doing to many is risk. Instead using them for tier 2 is actually good option. But do that only where sites like those are ********.

Links from FB and such will mainly help with social signals. FB links are worth zero for pagerank(the real pagerank inside google's brain).

If your links on FB such sites don't drive traffic, likes and engagements, they won't help.

What is he trying to rank for to need 100 pbns?
Instead of doing 100 as tier 2, send 10 as tier 1 and it will have the same power.

I am currently testing. I am blasting 100 somewhat low quality pbns to a youtube video that is on the homepage, the bbb busines page, and the yelp business page. I am hoping google will see those pages getting a little more juice and see all those pages are about the main business to help local map ranking. I do have quality pbns pointing to the main website with a lot of on page seo. The competition is pretty high and constantly doing their own seo. I have yet to pass the 9th position for almost 2 years. Trying other methods to see if I can get any benefit other than the usual tricks.

If he is asking about putting pbns as tier 2, he is probably in stronger niche and he already have some pbn pointing to tier 1. Adding more links without diversity and few HQ backlinks (guest posts for example) are not smart idea. Adding few guest posts and then adding more pbn links as tier 2 is actually very good strategy if you are able to spend more to get more. So he will then be able to rank guest posts in google which would probably get some decent traffic to his website, plus its safer option. When you need more power but don't want to risk to much, this is very good strategy :)

Good debate here.

What solution are you using for this?

I want to test this to see if it has any positive effect in my organic ranking but mainly if it will raise my local maps rank. I have done most everything I can for this website including citations to almost every I can find.
Either way I dont see how any of this can hurt since I am not pointing any of the links directly to the money site.

I think it's an okay idea, though I doubt it'll work as well with sites that have a nofollow. When Google ranks local listing, it looks to the authority of the listed website. However, if the listing has a followed link to the money site, then you can pump up the money site by way of pumping up followed links on other sites, like the listing site.

So here is an update. It seems my map rankings have increased slightly. My website homepage looks like it tanked. I am not picking up in the top 100 for the last 2 days. I do not see how this would have caused this but I have not done any other work for the site in the past month. Other inner pages have increased in rankings. I will wait another week to see what happens.

In theory, the new "granular" Penguin could have caused this. The listing sites point to your homepage, no? Then you may have just triggered spam signals to it.

I personally doubt this, but it's possible, and I can't see any other explanation.

According to me it would be better if you redirect the links from PBN to your money site, it will be more beneficial.

So here is another update. Checked my traffic stats and saw a big increase in traffic. Thought my homepage organic rankings have came back but they are still nowhere to be found. But now my google business map ranks have shot up to the top 3 spot for multiple keywords, some even first place. I dont know if I should be happy or worried. As long as the traffic keeps coming in, I am happy.

That is very interesting, Thanks for this. Please keep us updated on organic rankings for homepage.

3rd Update: My organic rankings have returned to normal. They are ranking where they left off before the links were made. I would say this was a successful test. Main thing is I did get a jump in google map rankings.
