I am targeting a keyword that means when I us it as my name to post in a blog my post is never accepted. Should I just use something like my username so I can build backlinks even though they won't have the anchor text I want? These blogs are Pr7-9.

It seems the administrators are very aware of people using the username as anchor-text... no point in insisting on that (for now, at least).

Try using a name + the seed of a long tail keyword and see if it works.
Ex. "Steve Diet" or "David auto", etc

If doesn't work, create a link with a regular username. As long as they pass some "juice"
to your website, it worth to have the link...even without the proper anchor-text.

The backlinks will have lesser value than links with anchor text. But it's still a good idea to create them (especially from high PR sites). And using this kind of backlinks in addition to your links with anchor test looks more natural to Google anyways.
