Backlink Points to "HTTP" Instead of "HTTPS" - Does This Affect Link Juice?

One of my brands got a backlink from a pretty big website (#2 in the US in their industry) and we have been thrilled. However, the backlink on their page points to our site as "HTTP" in the URL, not "HTTPS". Does anyone know if this affects link juice? Our HTTP redirects to HTTPS of course, but I'm concerned I will lose some of the best benefits of this link. In addition, I already requested them to change the URL, so I am hesitant to ask for more favors after they showed me the love. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If they'll change it, then all the better but if your redirect is set up then it's still going to benefit.

If you have a 301 (permanent) redirect from HTTP to HTTPS, there should be no issues.

I was wondering.. does google even rank non https sites anymore? I mean the new ones, not something that's already an authority. Not sure as don't even have a non https site anymore.

Yes it does but with proper redirect the loss should be minimal.

Once you are in a fight of top 3 positions everything matters though.

Thank you for the amazing and quick feedback everyone - very informative! Since I am a nervous nelly and since their DR is 90 in AHREFS, I am going to contact the author/brand and ask for them to update the link just in case there could be an issue. If I don't hear back, hopefully, the redirect will still have an impact. If they decide to drop the link, well, tough lesson for the future on how to communicate with certain marketers in industries.

Does anyone know how long it takes the SERPS to recognize the backlink? I know this can be kind of all over the place, but is it still around 10 to 12 weeks?

If it's really a DR90 backlink (Forbes or similar quality), then I would not contact them. Just leave it as it is, set up proper redirect to https and you're fine. The loss is extremely minimal, probably not even noticable.

Personally, I don't like when Links don't go directly to the main domain. I would suggest contacting those who made your links and ask them to change them, you never know. If it's not possible, you should see in the near future if it was problematic or not.
