After creating backlinks, does one sit around and wait for google to index them so you can see them on webmaster tools or is there a more speedy approach to this?

Usually, it will take about 1-2 weeks for Google to crawl and index your backlinks.
Instant indexing tools also available. But not recommended to use.
If you used quality & unique content means you will get indexed within a couple of weeks.Be patient.

You should index immediately so that if it's your post, for the backlink let it happen naturally

It has to be index naturally. How much time did you wait before using the indexing tools.

Well, the first step is just to let it happen naturally.
If your are creating quality backlinks, this won’t be a problem.
As well, the content surrounding your backlinks needs to be 100% unique.
If you decide to use other services or tactics, just make sure you don’t expect huge results from pinging.
As an advice, do not build backlinks on noindex platforms.

keep the creation of backlink don't worry about indexing google index all of the links as the natural way its all depend on particular sites crawl rate.

Indexing rate will be based on the sites you are getting the backlinks and normally it would take a couple of weeks.In my suggestion don't go with any link indexer tools it will get indexed naturally.

Either wait or use OneHourIndexing.co - that's my recco, but read reviews.. recently others have stated its not as good as it used to be.

I didnt came across any indexer tool with the name "instentlink indexer tool". I guess it is "Instant link indexer" .
