Backlink from other Country bad for SEO

If i have let's say a french site with french language and i build a lot of backlinks from englisch speaking sites..will this affect my french site in a bad way or will it still help to improve the rankings?

Have done this for a german site. German De domain and on google.com it's 1 and 2 for 2 keywords. On google.de 11 and 16. Before that my rankings on google.de were a lot lower.

So yes it does help to get you higher in google.com and a bit in google.fr

To really get high in the local google you would also need some more french backlinks.

ok so that means that getting backlinks from englisch speaking sites will mainly help to improve my google.com rankings and just a little bit for google.fr..i thought i will also help a lot on the google.fr rankings..but i will give it a try
