How accurate are backlink counts from tools like Serp attacks, etc. now that yahoo take down their link checker?

Reasonably accurate. You'll never find 100% of links, though.

Use multiple tools that collect links from different sources.

Use Ahrefs, their results are sort of accurate as they update their database on daily basis.

No tool is perfect. As others have already stated, try using multiple sources. I use BacklinkWatch mainly along with a few others both free and paid.

Arhrefs are pretty good. However, no service or tool is 100% accurate. You're better of using Arhrefs and a few others to double check.

I was using backlink watch. it was really awesome tool. but now i think you can check Arhrefs. its good too.
but the best was Yahoo site explorer

Even the mighty Google hasn't indexed every backlink on the internet. They are getting close though.
