I am sure some ppl will prob think this is a noob question but....

I'm trying to the monitor the backlinks on my sites and all the backlink checkers give me wildly different information. Does anyone else have this problem?

For example for one of my sites the backlink checkers give me this info:

backlinkwatch says this site has 5897 backlinks
monitorbacklinks says this site has 1720 backlinks
ahrefs says this site has 5900 backlinks
majesticseo says this site has 3852 backlinks
ibacklinkpro says this site has 5926 backlinks
then google webmaster tools says there is 265 backlinks !?!?!

how are you meant to know which backlinks are actually live when you get such different readings and which do ppl think is the most reliable checker? I'm guessing google is the most accurate but I don't know why they are saying there is only 265 I know there's more than that.

The best way to check for most of your backlinks is to use all those tools and services. There is no "one" tool that will find all your backlinks.

I personally would use all those tools if I could afford to use them all.

They all work on different semantics, scripting, different crawlers, and have different update periods. They won't all say the same amount.

thanks for the reply kinlee, well at the moment I have a subscription to ibacklinkpro I like their service, the other ones I am using the free version, I know everyone swears by ahrefs and they do seem like a great service but in my opinion they are a little pricey so still been wondering whether to get a subscription or not. The reason I'm trying to work out which are live or not is because this website is for a very very small niche and shouldn't need heaps of backlinks and it "should" be ranking higher than it is, maybe google are just taking their sweet time to pick up the backlinks for this website
