    greetings -

Not even sure I am using the correct terminology here, so bare with me.

I have few domains that are related to my main business domain, and I want to provide backlinks from those domains to my main business domain.

Would it be better to include text style back link (on the side frame) from all the pages on my secondary domain to my business domain, or should I create a banner and link to my business domain?

basically, what I am asking would text style backlink work better or banner style?

    thanks in advance

Keyword anchor text would be more effective but banners would be less risky. So, decide on what fits your needs better. Again, try not to over optimize. I am not sure if backlinking from sidebar/all pages would be the best way to move ahead. Whatever you do, make it look somewhat natural/organic.

    thanks for reply.

Can you please elaborate on "over optimizing" part?

also, if a business does buy banners from a site that advertises on every page, would google get pissed off?

Your point is valid and that is why I said banner would look more realistic. A business can buy banners at another website and that is normal. By over optimization, I meant that using the same keywords again and again and that too in sidebars/sitewide might not be the best of idea.

a banner image can have a title an alt name and alt title. If I use my keyword for these 2 fields, would I get the same benefit as if i was using keyword anchor text?

No, it should ideally not give the same benefits as using an actual anchor text. Maybe you could mix it up and use brand keywords, anchor keywords, banners etc. if you own multiple sites. Again it depends on your own gut feeling/judgement. Normally websites are not penalized for sidebar links too but then there can always be that one bad day and one bad update with Google. However, they are not much effective anymore. As Cutts himself said once, the first link from a domain holds the most value, then the second link has hardly half of the same link juice and gradually the rest of links do not have that much value. So, many SEO guys and webmasters tend to insert one or two contextual backlinks from the most powerful pages of the website.
