Is there a way using software to mute or remove the singing voice from a vid?
I just want a backing track for something and do not need the voice but want to replace witn my voice.

There is probably a free app, but you can mute the audio in Camtasia Studio. Then overlay your own audio.

I am sure Camtasia is on the warez scene...

Yeah... if I'm understanding what the OP is asking, he wants to eliminate the vocal track from a music recording but preserve the music itself. Hence, my reference to the G search for such software. Camtasia or Audacity would allow complete removal of the audio but I don't believe that's what he wants.

Essentially, it's kinda like karaoke... just the music and you supply the vocals. There are services where you can buy singles of popular music with the vocals already removed.

I made bit of mistake said remove from video but its mp3 to remove the voice

I updated the lyrics however contacting Johnny ROtten for permission is going to be a hurdle.

Google an instrumental version. It's not too hard to find those, unless it's not a professionally released song. Try Limewire. You find everything there...
