Do you need background noise to be more productive?

If so what is it. T.V, you tube or music?

I find that background noises help me focus for some odd reason, by background noises I mean YouTube, I also prefer working in a 'darker' setting.

Same here. Whenever I work, I always dim the lights and either turn on music or netflix and I don't focus on it. It's just on in the background. For some reason, this is when I'm most productive.

without noise I go insane. Without noise, no one around me is safe.

Why is this tho?

I'm the same.

However I find it difficult to keep background noise on and write articles at the same time.

I have always got music on .. As soon as I wake up, I put on Spotify and music is on until the minute I go to bed

I find music annoys my brain after a while

If I want to concentrate, I put music that I don't know. If I know the song, I'm gonna sing along in my mind and I won't get much work done.

It's all relevant to the task.

If I need to write an awesome article for a money site I'll turn on some good talk radio. I notice my brain will be mostly blank at first and I won't concentrate. But after just hearing enough words my brain seems to "unlock". Writers block goes away and words start to flow. I'll get so focused I'll forget the radios on.

If I'm writing copy I always need silence. I just take out a binder full of swipe and get to work.

If I'm doing voiceovers, music or video obviously I need full silence.

If I'm doing graphics it doesn't matter what I'm doing.

For some reason, my brain knows "work time" when I turn on Netflix. Another advantage of working from home. Any other employer would say "blah blah you can't watch netflix wtf blah blah." I need background noise and usually I don't even have the show/movie on my screen. I'm just listening to it to work.

Oddly enough, music distracts me.
