    Hi Guys,

I have decided to go back to basics and re-evaluate everything i know about seo.

I dont have the money for fancy tools and plan to do everything manually.

I am launching a site soon but i cant really find anything too usefull about site content.

    I am using wordpress.

My homepage is going to have 800 words and 3 you tube videos, with links in the content to the other pages in my site.

After that i will have 5 more pages (made up of posts) that will contain 500 - 700 words each.

Once this is done and the site is launched, i will obvously add more and more content as well as start on my backlinks and social networking.

Do you think this is enough content intially to start the ranking process with google once i allow search engines onto my site ?

My take is that will get you going nicely - then my proven policy is to keep adding regular new content for the first 6 months minimum of the site being online

Sounds like a solid plan. I don't think Google expects a ton of content from a new site and it really likes to see new content added on a consistent basis.

Yeah, 5 articles are good to launch the site. But make sure you add the content consistently.

It seems like a good plan. Just keep adding more content regularly or try create a blog section of your site and attract guest bloggers to add unique content.

I actually started a similar thread about content and starting a site from scratch. So 6 months of regular content added you say? That makes sense as google likes to see the fresh stuff. How often should there be new content added? One article per week? And are we talking about authority niche sites or micro niche sites?

20 articles to start with and say, 1 article for every 2 days should cut it.

Sounds like enough content to start with. As everyone else is saying, keep adding on a regular schedule.

5 pages of content is a perfectly good start for a website to begin with. It does not matter how much content you add, nor even when you add it, it just matters that you add it on a continuing basis.

Also, it is my opinion, and I have nothing to back this up except Google likes things to look natural. I do one post today, two tomorrow, 1 am and pm, none the next day, then maybe three in a row, because this is how people blog. True, many people post on a regular schedule, but Google hates automation, I tend to randomize when I post.

    Just my take on it.

It also depends on your kw competition specially if you want to rank fast, but I'd say 7-10 articles would be fine for a start and just keep adding every other day

Yes, this! As most are saying, start slow, act naturally...you know, just be yourself and put good content out on a regular basis...submit a link here and there to add some social signals...that's perfectly natural for a blogger to do, just don't overdo it. I also like the video idea...YT has not let me down when it comes to ranking; instead of launching all 3 vids at once, I'd throw up the first 2 vids at the start and leave one in the pipeline to share in a couple weeks, but that's just me.

What kind of a website is it? Is it purely a blog or is it like a corporate website type of thing?

If it's a blog, plan out your website using pillar articles. 5 articles per week for about a month or two is good, and gives the search engines something to chew on. You can then wind that down to two or three times a week. The key is to consistently post after that initial monthly blast. I know that this is the opposite of what people on this thread are saying, however I used to work in a company where my unit/division worked on blogging for authority to sell related products. This was our strategy and our unit made about USD$1 million in the first year using this blog strategy.

If you are creating a eCommerce site, then at least 5 articles should be written.
If you are creating an Authority niche/micro niche site, then you need at least 20 articles to start off with.

    Around 4-5.

Space it out so you have articles already written.

Then follow: Week one: 2 articles, 1 article. Week two: 3 articles, 2 articles, Week three: 1 article, 2 articles, etc. to where you're doing 1-2 a week.

Hey, that is a good tip. How long should you keep adding content after the website's initial launch? 6-12 months depending on competition?
