Hello folks,

I have started my backlink building and i have a few questions :

1. Is it better to link to my main url or individual blog posts?
2. Is it important to have proper keywords with my links or just some generic description.

depends on what you want.

Do you want to rank your money pages? If yes, then link to the inner pages you want to rank, but make sure your anchor text are diversified while still containing the exact keyword once or twice every 10 anchors.

Do you want to increase the website's authority / brand? Link to your homepage with diversified anchors of which branded anchors should make up around 40-50% of your total anchor texts

Well, the main goal is to increase ranking and traffic of course both on main as well as the individual posts.

So as an additional question will backlinking to the main URL help boost posts or not at all ?

1. Decide on keywords.
2. Complete onsite PAGE optimization for keywords you chosen in #1 (make sure you have good density)
3. Start getting back links to the PAGE you have already optimized for keywords.

Another question that came up since linking to pages makes sense, i have a few backlinks to the main url ,can i also do the same backlinks for pages ? or will that get penalized?

No, you can do it. only take care of link quality.

Try to avoid getting multiple links of the same form from the same source.

And, I'd recommend pointing 70% of the links you get to your homepage and the rest 30% to your inner money pages that you want to rank. But make sure these inner money pages are linked to your other inner pages, this ensures the link juice you get from the backlink will benefit other pages as well.
