Even Google encourages sites to get into the Yahoo directory, but $300 a year is a bit steep, and I hate paying for anything I can get for free.

The secret is:

The Yahoo Canada Directory. Yahoo is trying to build it bigger so they are accepting free submissions. Here's a video showing it:

Code:
hxxp://www.smartseovideos.com/videos2/seo-top-secret-1.html

1) Go to http://ca.dir.yahoo.com

2) Pick the best category for your site

3) Click the suggest a site button inside category

4) Click on the free submission button on the right hand side

5) Enter your site's information and submit

I went a little crazy and submitted a lot of sites at once and it gave me an error after a while, so don't try to spam it. Submit gradually.

Like the post? You know what to do and what not to do, right?

Wow. Great post. I've just submitted my site. :) Thanks again.

Sorry but... what's the difference?!

You can do free submissions on yahoo.com also, altought they wont get you nowhere.
The $300 is for the review, and even so, the inclusion is not guaranteeded.

Maybe I didn't got it right?!

Thanks for announcement. I've already submitted a couple of sites a few days ago, but these aren't listed yet. I suppose these Yahoo guys do manual verification and approval one by one; I can't explain it otherwise.

great post even if it takes times you are still saving 300 large one's , keep em coming boys

Try every country. Would it work faster with some of the countries were yahoo doesn't have so many people trying to submit their site. I dont know.

Great tip - thanks...don't suppose you've got a mass submitter :) rep given

I still don't get it, sorry. How new is this? You will submit it, as always, and you won't get listed, as always... Can someone explain to me what am I missing? It would be indeed great, if possible. Maybe I am not seeing it right.

The difference is that the Canada yahoo directory is actually accepting commercial sites via free submission. The US Yahoo directory only accepts non-profit sites free of charge.

I don't get it either. We're talking about Canada. They speak french. Michael Moore loves the place. Seems very un-patriotic. :)

Great tip Battman. Will post a few urls at a time till I get em all up.

How about hxxp://ca.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/free/request

i posted this on some other forums and i got laughed at since this is no backdoor AT ALL, there was always a way to try to get in for free. You're posting this like its some hidden secret and forgotten backdoor..but everyone with a little knowledge about this knew this already. So i made an a$$ out of myself since i thought i picked up something really clever and cool... :)

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it — and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove lid. She will never sit on a hot stove lid again — and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore. - Mark Twain
