I read a story about a guy who get into debt - $12,000 per 1 day on Amazon. Money left his card in the automatic mode.

I have a free AWS account and I want to confirm the banking card and phone number but
I'm afraid to do it because of this fucking story. I want to sell my account in the future, but I'm afraid to get into a similar situation. If I owe 12,000$ it would be funny.
Can I delete all the data before selling account? and if I do it. Will it work for the new owner? I do not want to be like a shit and sell a nonworking account.

may be I ask a stupid question but I'm not an expert in AWS

VCC is virtual credit card. There are sellers on the marketplace and it's basically a prepaid Visa card so you will not be liable for future payments. Good luck.

Amazon started blocking VCCs. Use a debit card with just enough balance.

i believe you can, now the reason for that debt, if you leave the server machine online it will always count something. So you should just stop the instance whenever you're not using it.

I actually don't know what the real situation with this guy is but normally it is impossible to make such kind of spent in Amazon unless your account is hacked somehow. As far as I know you can define billing alerts and you can make AWS inform you when usage exceeds certain amount. You can also define budgets and make sure AWS monitors total amount of your usage and stops your services automatically if it is needed.

I cannot post links just google "aws billing alarm" and "aws budget"

edit:spelling errors

I remember driving my Adwords account to -320$ bal (used postpay method). Ofc I was using a VCC so just ran away, but the guy who owes 12k$ is really in deep shit and that is why you should always use VCC even for legit accounts.

well amazon has virtual servers that you can purchase and with a couple of hours reach that amount. The sky its the limit there.

Yes. His account was hacked but Amazon forgive his debt because of this. So he don't need to pay 12k. Lucky

I have a free account now and not verified yet. I need it only for sale and I have never used their services.

Well. There is no need to worry about if you know what you are doing with Amazon. Just monitor your account on daily basis and follow best practices which you can find everywhere. I don't think you will have trouble if you start small.
