Avoiding email spam filter?

I've been trying to send some emails to try and generate some leads, but a lot of the time it seems like they get caught in the spam filter. This is frustrating because I modify each email specifically to its recipient. I am not sending that many, and not spamming in any way. So I'm thinking there must be something that is triggering this. I'm using no images, but do include an address to my website in the bottom, could this be the reason? What general things should I be thinking about to not get put in the spam category?

As karupoiss said, it depends if you're using your own server or a 3rd party, number of images ion your email, number of links in your email, if you're sending out to people who didn't sign up to receive emails from you, they can report you and google marks your emails as spam, etc etc

I'm using a third party server, the webmail client that was provided together with my hosting. I'm just sending out to a few local companies that hasn't signed up for receiving these emails. But I've only sent a few and highly doubt that my mail address has been reported. I always follow up with a phone call as well. I'm still very new to email marketing, but I guess I'll try looking into it a bit more and see what I can find thanks

Very true.

In short, you need IP's that have a clean history - Something that either costs a lot, or is unavailable.

If however what you're doing is legal, there are many providers like sendgrid that allow mass mailing.

• Using phrases like "Click here!" or "Once in a lifetime opportunity!"
• Excessive use of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!
• USING ALL CAPS, WHICH IS LIKE SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS VIA EMAIL (especially in the subject line).
• Using bright red or green colored fonts.
