Is it a good idea to auto redirect visitors from my blog to an affiliate that converts really well or it is a big no no?

Could be considered cookie stuffing if the user doesn't intentionally click a link to the site.

What the hell are you talking about? That's not cookie stuffing. This is what cookie stuffing is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_stuffing but back the question. It should be fine. I do that all the time and have had no problems yet.

You run the risk of the affiliate shutting you down. You should probably get permission to be 100% safe.

eBay, for one, considers "accidental" redirection to be cookie stuffing (or at least an offense on a similar level).

It wont considered cookie stuffing if you display a message to the visitor prior to the redirection. For ex, you use a meta-refresh redirection (not server side), and you display a message like: "You are now being redirected to the merchant website bla bla..."

This is legit

It's not cookie stuffing at all. It's quite the opposite. Also, remember discussions of C.S. are disallowed here(because it's not black hat, it's a weasel tactic and a fraud).

Redirecting to your affiliate page is fine, but you'll likely lose rankings. Also, some affiliate networks may not like your source of traffic, so watch out for that, they can check the referrer.
