Automated Blogging and Autoblogs ? Why they don?t work?.

Ok if you have looked at any of my previous post you might notice that I talk about autoblogging and being successful at it. One of the things I?ve noticed though is that the vast majority of people never seem to make any money with Autoblogs.

So why is it that I say autoblogging does not work?

When I first started building autoblogs it seemed pretty easy. Throw up a wordpress blog find the right plugin?set it up and the money should start to roll in. At least that is what I was told by all of these people selling plugins that generated automatic content. Here is a list of some of the plugins we have used:

? Caffeinated Content
? Autoblogged
? Unique Article Wizard
? Automatic Blog
? WP Robot
? Phpbay
? Reviewazon
? RSS to Blog
? Datafeedr
? Syndicate Kahuna
? And others?

Now?those are some of the main ones you see floating around. These are the ones that everybody says are the best plugins. You can find many of these on this forum for free?I buy them all now?that way I always have the most up to date version and I don?t have to worry about compatibility issues.
We don?t use all of those anymore?why? Because most of them have a failing?and this failing is why you don?t make much if any money with your autoblogs. So what are some of the other reasons you sites don?t make money:

  • You picked a shitty niche?it happens
  • Your keyword research sucks
  • You did not monetize you site (it amazes me the number of sites that fail to monetize their property)
  • NO Traffic?without traffic there is no money
  • You don?t have a system
  • You don?t trust the system
  • You don?t stick with it long enough
  • You don?t know the right tools to use (everyone says theirs is the best)
  • You don?t know where to find the tools you need (most are free)
  • One little problem can stop you dead in your tracks because you cant find the answer.
  • You?ve been lied to?A Lot
  • You suffer from information overload
  • You don?t know how to outsource the simple tasks
  • You have no clue what?s really important and what not when building an autoblogs
  • You don?t know how to measure to see if it is successful

You know?I was in the same boat. We built sites using what we thought were the latest and greatest tools only to find out that the content sucked and we lacked enough traffic to make any money.

While I?m on the subject of making money with automated blogs?lets talk about what is a realistic expectation. This entirely depends on how you monetize it, the niche you choose and how well you set it up.

A properly set up autoblog that makes its money from adsense will bring in anywhere from $1 - $5 per day depending on the niche?some do better than others. One that promotes Clickbank products can produce anywhere for a buck a day to $50 or more a day. Amazon and ebay products 5 to 10 bucks a day. CPA offers?50 cents to a $100 a day.

The important part is not to get hung up in all that.

Remember?..without traffic you will not make money?.So concentrate on getting traffic.

So what did we do to solve the riddle of how to make money with automated blogs. We tested?we examined all our sites to see what made some better than others?why some made money and others didn?t. Here is what we learned:

  • Without traffic (more than 10 or 15 visitors a day) you?re screwed
  • With some sites a $1 per day is good. (20 of these sites = $20/day or $600/month)
  • Develop a system that works?.AND Follow it.
  • You are not going to make money overnight
  • Depending on your niche and how you monetize your site it can take 30 ? 90 days to see any money coming in.
  • You have to find a way to promoted your blog?it can be manual, automated or outsource but it has to be done
  • Think your way through your site before you build it?.how are you going to monetize it, does that model make sense for your niche, do your keyword research?ect

There is so much to say on this subject and it?s getting late so I?m going to finish for now. I know the frustrations of working for days or weeks on a site only to come up empty handed?it sucks. There is a lot of good info on this site about autoblogs but a lot of it is out of date.

I lot of the methods for generating content are becoming less effective?.that?s why you have to test, test, test?monitor and track your results. Keeping up to date is the best way to ensure you make money with your autoblog.

Have a great weekend all

this is a good lesson for me to make research again for making autoblogs that work. thank you buddy

Nice to be reminded of my faux pas, always seems to come down to traffic, traffic, traffic.

All someone has to do is come out with a "Traffic Package for Autobloggers" and they'd be rich! ....anyway, they'd make more money than us autobloggers :D

Thanks for the nice summary and valuable points....think I'll print it out and stick it on the wall.

You bring up the key to the autoblog - Traffic.

Content is the easy part - Getting the traffic to it, is the true trick. I'm still trying to figure out what works. Too many people doing the same thing, using the same tools seems to have killed most methods. I've done the commenter, twitter, facebook thing w/o much success. Time to come up with something new.:questionm

Yes...it really is all about traffic....if you get the traffic coming to your site then you can test and tweak your mouse trap.

I'm not much on commenters...never had the time to explore them. Twitter and facebook are still excellent places to get traffic but those are only a small piece of the puzzle. Here is a great example of using facebook....I have not idea if the chick is making any money with her efforts but she has a very targeted audience to get he message in front of.

Anyways here s here profile on FB http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/brooke.martinez1?v=info&ref=nf she has over 1400 friends (prospective customers)

Twitter will work if you have enough followers....if not its tough. But if you have enough followers you can get a good amount of traffic.

But you really need to get your site to the top of the search engines for as many keywords as possible. There are a number of ways to get this done

I'm going to give you one example....we have a costume site that we sent close to 40k visitors to last October. We built the autoblog the took some of the content from it...spun it and submitted it through our modified linkwheel process. That was it.

We got a ton of traffic through those submissions as well as all of the long tail keywords that we had content for on our site.

Another site we have up is fully automated....once we set it up we jet let it run...it continues to double in the amount of traffic it gets every month. This site is set up so that once the content is posted it gets bookmarked, and submitted to a number of web 2.0 properties all on autopilot.

The niche determines how we set the blog up for promotion....some niches work better one way while others a different way. But no matter what the sites have to be promoted.

I have bits and pieces done but not in any sort of cohesive order...lol I could list the number of reasons why its not done but basically it is not high on the priority...(too many other projects)

I do need to get the ebook done.... no promises but I'll let you know when its done.

The other problem is that it continues to evolve....

I know that is not much of an answer but its the best I have for now.

Can you explain why you feel the plugins don't work anymore?

Thanks.

Extra and Unneeded Plug-ins:

1. Slow down your site

B. Shouldn't be used for each and every blog anyway, certain blogs call for certain plug-ins

3. I switched from numbers to letters just to see if you were paying attention.

Can you explain this part in more details.. I mean submitted to web 2.o properties on auto pilot ??

its all about niche and also which niches not all web surfers pay attention to the ads around the content usually people click on ads if they were searching for something specific like a certain product or a special deal.

I did not say they dont work...they have failures (call them faults) The trick is to find ways to overcome them or to find other ways to add content to your site. CC is buggy...most of the rss feeds people pick suck. Though there is not really a dupe content penalty you'll find your content ranks better if you find a way to add value to it. I use wprobt almost exclusively for content these days because of all the options it gives you for content.

Absolutely...there are programs out there that will allow you to bookmark all your post (onlywire) you can also add your content to facebook and twitter automatically. There is also a program called Posterous that gives you a lot of options.

The goal is to develop a strategy to use all these tools to "sensibly" promote your blog automatically. Imagine a twitter acct with 1000s of followers getting notified that you have a new blog post on a topic they are interested in. Same thing with facebook...you can build a group of highly targeted members that you can promote your content to.

Really the possiblities are endless...we are constantly improving our process.

Hope this helps

a very honest and direct overview on aut0blog...you still need hard work and a good methodology, fine tuning to make it work

Excellent post on your experience with AB. From my experience I'm learning to not overlook the importance of domain name research can which can send you off to fast-starts better keyword research and less plugins and faster production is best.

That's my synopsis of my AB experience.

Autoblogs are very cool....the more creative you are the better your chances for success are.

Lets talk about niche and keyword research. The cool thing about automate blogging is that you will be building a site with tons of long tail keywords.

Here is an example...this site has been up for a couple months. It has:
  • 417 pages indexed
  • last month 1035 unique visitors (not page views)
  • this month on track for about 2400 unique visitors
  • 280 backlinks
  • found by 170 different long tail keyword phrases

I dont know if you caught the significance of that last part....170 different (3, 4, and 5 word) keyword phrases that nobody is targeting. Next month even more.

So what does this mean? If I have a weight loss site we all know that that is pretty competitive and pays a pretty decent amount per click on adsense. I'm getting people to come to my site where I get content based on the primary keyword of "weight loss"

They are clicking on ads that are targeted on weight loss but the keywords that are bringing these people to my site are longtail keywords....pretty cool huh.

This is a process that takes time....how much time depends on the niche and the effort you put into it.

One last thought for tonight...when you are building traffic this way there is a point (for most sites) where the site hits critical mass....when that happens the traffic and the site grow very fast...Thats when it gets fun.

Oh...BTW that site I gave you the stats on...cost me:

Domain $8
Hosting - we have our own
initial content $12
time about 8 hours

Thank you jvmarket for your time and tip. I hope this thread really continues. Right now I am building twiiter and facebook accounts niche wise - they are growing slowly but consistently. I dont want to cross the line and get banned or anything.

I have also started on web 2.0 and plannin to get BMDM or bookmarkingwiz when I have enough funds.

Can you help me with domain thing ??

The reason I started with AB was cause I was already a blogger and since everyone say it is good when you really like what you are doin - I started on AB.

Right now I am buying dropped domains and building AB on them but it takes more funds and time but you can also make some decent cash by selling links and posts if you know the right places to sell them.. ( something I was already doing b4 I started on AB)

So is it a good idea to go for dropped domains for AB or should i just start with new domains ??

One is slow but pays nice later - other is fast and you can build many by that time but pays a bit low ....

Also what are your views on using google news as a source of content ? i cant get full feeds from there though ? Some speak of it highly.. Can you mix amazon / etc with them ? Also is it allowed to place affiliate links in google feeds ?? Will it piss google of if i use a SHAuto links plugin to convert words into links ?

Thanks for being so supportive and active. sincerely hope this thread continues for a long time to come. :)

I almost always use new domains....but if I find a bargain on a older domain then I'll use it.

I have not used google news....so I really dont have an opinion on it. sorry about that
