This is related to the thread selling the auto forum poster, but I didn't want to hijack his sales thread.

Ok, So I did a search for this and didn't come up with much of anything. If it is buried here somewhere please post the link.
I wanted to know how the members that have experience with auto forums or starting forums with auto forum tools feel about the method as a way to make money. Specifically:
1. How long did it take you to make money with YOUR forum.
2. What was/is the effort level to maintain the forum.
3. Are Mods a requirement at the beginning, later, ever?
Second, are there any basic guidelines for promoting a forum (black/grayhat style) Like,
1. Do you backlink a forum? If so, how? Shoot Xrumer at the category pages? etc.
2. I know I read somewhere that you could use Mturk to build and promote a forum, does anyone know how that works.
3. I know niche selection for other types of sites (adwords, review, etc) but what makes a niche a good choice for a forum type site.
No one else may care, but I thought it might be a good idea to pick BHW brains and try to put most of the forum info in one place.
