Authority Site - What Domain would you buy?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on starting my first authority site but I don't have a clue of what domain to buy.
Usually on my MNS I would start with a EMD, so the domain would be on a nice keyword.

What do you usually choose for your authority sites? Brandable domain with the main keyword in it? An EMD? Help me out :)

I usually go for kw + letter ...ofc now it depends on what you want with the domain and how far you wanna go with it.

Just my 2 cents :)

Let's have an example here. If you were going to have an authority on weight loss, what domain would you get?
I mean, you will have an hard time being an authority if your domain is like "weightlossproductXXX.com" since you are already attached to that single product.
 
If you're going to be an authority (easily 100+ pages). Then I wouldn't worry too much about getting an EMD. Just something catchy and related to your niche. Look at most authority domains, they're like this.

Yup, that's what I thought.
I think I will include the main keyword and then some letter, or another word that sounds good.
 
What do people like their EMD to be? I know, the higher the better, but I'm curious what the average find is, of available .com and EMD numbers. I find one available .com with 590 EMD and get excited, LOL. But I go for niche stuff that I have an interest in developing...
 
Brandable Niche Related for sure!

Don't bother with EMDs when your aiming for authority, unless you can get both brandable and an exact match.

When the concept is good enough I don't mind spending XXX Low XXXX on a good domain either. Sedo is a great place to pick up a good name with some age as well.
 
Waddup is right, Sedo is fantastic for getting great domains. You can even find decent ones on Flippa or GoDaddy too
 
Hi,

I would go with a catchy short domain giving hint to the general theme of your site's contents.
