Authority Site SEO Case Study

I don't do any of that sort of thing... it does require too much time and effort as spectrejoe says for the return generally for me.

I do have links from eHow that were not solicited and links from Wikipedia that I was able to slip in, and I have bought guest posts, but doing the shaking hands and kissing babies to get links is not in my wheelhouse.

Doesn't it look suspicious that you don't have any links from established sites? I mean, your backlink profile consists of Web 2.0s, a couple parasite pages, social bookmarks, article directories, and other low-hanging fruit.

If that is all I do for this site, it would look strange but this site is a toddler yet.

Hi,

Just wanted to ask you a question regarding a press release. I saw you suggested using PR web for a press release. I think it would be good for my new site as it will pass some authority to it.

But, all examples I see around is poor quality press releases that get picked by low-quality sites.

Can you give me any tips to to do a press release and attract coverage from good quality websites? If you can suggest me a service, that would be awesome.

Do you write your own descriptions that will show up on google or you just let google take the first part of your article and let it use as the description?

I always write my own... the more content that is unique on there the better.

Hey BTB,

I think you missed my question. Posting it again and hoping it catches your eye.

A question I hope you do not mind answering. At what point do you start getting traffic? I am almost three months into a site with decent size and a small amount of SEO and I am not making any real traction.

I always write my own press releases. Not because the services offered don't do a good job as much as because I know I'll convey what I want to convey.

I like the brand name in there and my main KW and then some content about the KW that is very broad in nature. I don't sell in a PR as much as I share information but I do try and put in a little call to action near the end. I also add in the contact info etc in the appropriate areas using an email address that is tied to the domain I am pushing.

A have no qualms about pushing the envelope with KW density either when I am setting that up and can go as high as 4%.

As to distribution, there are a handful of guys with BSTs here that do a decent job as I have used 2 of them and was satisfied with both.

That could be a variety of issues but I usually start getting traffic within a few weeks. It is usually joke numbers to start but as things grow so does the traffic.

If I were to blindly guess what is going on there I would say that you are not targeting direct buying KWs. By buying KWs, I mean phrases that would be more likely to be searched as opposed to a broad term.

As opposed to "dog training", I would target, what are the best dog training methods, are there dog training methods that work best, where can I buy dog training videos and the like.

Targeting questions work real well to start getting traffic and are really not all that hard to rank either.

Do you have any experience with IDN domains? I have one with some foreign characters and not sure if it's going to affect the rankings.

Thanks

I have zero experience or any knowledge beyond some random stuff I have read there.

Perhaps accelerator_dd might know spmethibg there that could shed some light for you.

Tons of golden nuggets in this thread (along with the others you've created).

This is my first time learning about authority sites, and you've motivated me to start my own!

Thanks for all the useful information btb!

Any update on the rankings or traffic?

I have been upping my Game with some of my sites with the goal of making it all work one day. Re - Reading your thread gives me some better perspective after working on the same thing for so long. Just wanted to toss another thank you out to you BTB.

I have a plan for authority site with 500 articles each having 1000-1500 word articles, keywords I will be targeting will be very crowded ones, what's your opinion on a site like this, what can it bring in terms of money.

Another question, can you explain in steps what takes to make an authority site with loads of unique articles to make a good amount of money and please explain me about the backlinking, how it's related to ranking a website higher in google search engine, I seriously have no idea about it.

What do softwares which promises to put your site on number 1 page of google for that particular keyword actually do ?, are they just scams?

Keywords that have a lot of competition are obviously harder to rank than those that do not have a lot of competition. When I build a site I like to have both as part of the entire package... how much you make is dependent on too many factors for me to venture a guess or estimate.

I like to add my content on a semi-regular basis, mixing up the size of the articles and the posting velocity. As to backlinking, a balanced backlink infrastructure usually works very well as part of the entire body of work and is good for the times that Google makes significant changes in their algorithms.

I have no idea about any software that promises to put your site on page 1 of Google but if I did come across one I would doubt it's veracity.

You didn't explain backlinking, just to remind you in case you have missed it.

What's the threshold to conclude that some keyword are highly competitive.
