Authority SITE building QUESTION.

What exactly constitutes an authority site? I understand authority is the way to go now, but how big do these sites have to be in general to be considered an "authority" and not get slapped by Google? Basically, when is the threshold crossed from a niche site to an authority site? 5 pages? 10 pages? 50 pages? 1000 pages?

Any advice or input is appreciated.

actually, i never heard anything like threshold of pages for Authority.

Authority means google actually value your site with good contents, so i highly doubt that big site will effect your authority. BUT crappy contents does.

If you are running Authority site, i would advise to put up good contents with legitimate good quality links building.

If the content you post on the site could be submitted to an academic journal or as a thesis, it's an authority site.

Interesting.... So in "theory" the site could be like 5 pages, but if the content is fantastic its an authority?

Forums are probably the greatest invention ever. Thousands of minds meeting in one place with the sole purpose of discussing a particular subject.
 
heuristic analysis of a site showing taxonomy structured information leading a reader to believe that the site has it's shit together..coupled with like minded subject matter neighborhood relationships.

That's your authority site on ANY level.

Did you notice any mention of word or page count? Because that shouldn't be the focus of your question ;)
 
Yeah it's not about the pages actually. Or the number of words. You'll see some sites kind of always ranking for it's niche related keywords. For example, webmd.com for health related keywords. These sites are authority sites. IMDB for movies is another example.
 
Authority depends on the QUALITY of the content.

What is quality?
On the whole, it means MEETING THE NEEDS of people looking for such content. These needs involve answering their questions and also ENGAGING THEM emotionally.

ehh, even though pages and words doesn't really matter, but 5 pages is a little too less i guess. :|
 
If you want to be seen as an authority site in Google's eyes - have websites that are already authoritative in their niches link to you.
 
Authority = Quality Content
Quality Content = Well written article the people love to share, discuss, and comment

End Result: Your website will automatically become authoritative in Google eye - doesnt matter it has 1000 pages or million pages.
 
If your site is on an aged domain, about 100 or more pages, in several categories under a unified theme (e.g., site is about motorbikes, broken down into different models, accessories, maintenance, etc), with links from other authority sites, and the pages have about the same DECENT quality (doesn't have to be award winning), that should be enough high-percentage elements to get it evaluated as an authority site.
 
Authority is not just content, but links from authoritative websites. That's why page authority and trust flow are so closely monitored now. That's also why virtually every authority site will have super high PA and TF scores. You can build a 1,000 page site with great content, but with no links it's still not an authority.

Thanks for the info. What would, in your opinion, be an "authority" PA and TF rating?
