Hello

Our authority score in semrush got lowered to 10 from 15... how did this happened? what could be the possible causes and how do we make it come back or even higher?

SemRush changed the way they calculate authority score, they take into account your traffic now as well as the links, so that's most likely why your authority score lowered recently.

Indeed many will be lowered but tbh, all we should care about is traffic

As per Semrush's latest report, Authority Score breaks down into three main elements: Link Power, Organic Traffic, and Spam Factor. Prior to this change, the Authority Score formula was based on two intricate algorithms that evaluated a website's overall quality using information from organic search, traffic, and backlinks.

Check on your links because its based on the quality and traffic of your links, so adding some high-quality links then automatically will increase the Authority score.

You can read the detailed conception about Authority Score in SEMrush:

1.Natural Profile.

This evaluates whether this website feels like it was designed for people, not search engines.

A.Natural ratio of follow to nofollow links.
B. Unique backlink profile.
C. Diverse pool of referring IP addresses.
D. Diverse pool of referring IP subnet.
-This means "Natural" is the importance.

2. Organic Traffic
An estimate of how much organic search traffic this domain gets.

-This means the backlinks can directly bring organic search traffic.

3. Link Power

This measures how many backlinks this domain has, as well as their overall quality.
- This means high quality and quantity of the backlinks.

This creates a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LOOP

Believe it or not, if your content is LEGIT, other sites will link to you VOLUNTARILY

This is called EARNING backlinks

The problem? The guys interested in linking to your content factor in external link authority.

The lower your SEMRUSH / AHREFS authority, the less likely you'll earn such links

Authority score is calculated upon multiple factors, so you should keep working on those, or else your score will go down. Factors like backlinks, organic traffic, monthly visits, etc.,

Based on my knowledge authority score can be be lowered by various factors like, Loss of quality backlinks, Relevance and content quality, Regular content updates and technical issues as well.

You can check whether your site has lost any high quality backlinks.
You can try evaluating the quality and relevance of your website content.
You can regularly update and refresh the content of your website.
You can check whether your website has any technical SEO issue like slow page speed or broken links.
