Authority over micro, my journey creating authority websites

So I've been meaning to get into creating authority websites. I already have one with ~80k unique visitors monthly but since it's gaming-related the ads aren't worth it.

I've been fascinated by SEO for the past two years now and I've seen google updates come and go and I believe that the only way to 'proof' yourself is to actually build websites that will last. Having a 5~10-page website isn't going to-do much in the long-run, now is it?

The plan is to start off with getting (3) websites up, running and ranking decently before going onwards - remember I'm building big websites so they need a lot more care than the average MNS.

Website 1 (one week old)
My first website which is already up and running. For now I'm targeting one main keyword and two long-tail.

Monthly Global Exact Searches: 8000+
Approximate CPA: $1.58+

KW3: #8

Website 2 (Not yet launched)
Second website, still waiting to finish the articles before releasing it to Google.

What's the plan?
- Build manual web 2.0's with unique articles (not spun or re-written).
- Twitter/Facebook integration (Let's face it, social networking keeps getting more important)

- Add 1-2 articles each week to each website.

A quick update

* I've setup a facebook and twitter account and linked it with the website (1) - as well as sharing it around to get more followers/likes.
* Added 3 x tier 1 Web 2.0s' with unique articles.
* Added two more articles to the website (1).

So far it's 1.5$ today (I'm European so it's 03:10 here) so I'm looking forward to see the results tomorrow.

I'm still working on the articles for the second website but alas, it's hard to write about due to it being a specific product-type.

The idea for tonight is to get the second website up and research for more long tail search keywords.

I noticed that your research was done with Monthly Global Exact Searches. I'm wondering how much traffic you will gain for site2 even at position 1 in serps.

Will making an authority site targeting 1k global searches worth the work? Just wondering, I'm still noob so maybe idk what I'm talking about :D.

Purely Adsense, tried infolinks but the adverts are just too spammy and irrelevant. Been using Adsense since 2007 with good results so most likely going with it solely (with a bit of Amazon perhaps for the (2) website)

You're absolutely right. It seems I did a mistake, it is indeed correct that it's 1000+ but the actual number is 18.100 so alas, it's not as bad as it looks like. The general idea when keyword searching is finding low competition keywords with a lot of global searches. :-) Worth mentioning since I'm targeting US Keywords the global = US is the same.

It's been a busy day for website (1).
* I've added 2 more articles to the first website.
* Worked on attracting twitter, facebook, pinterest followers/repins/likes (going quite well so far tbh!)
* Added several new categories to the website.

SERP
KW1: 14 (+3)
KW2: 14 (0)
KW3: 10 (+2)
For website (2) I've finally completed the first five articles, hopefully we'll see it start ranking soon.

Plan for tonight is start to build some more backlinks to the website, right now I've just been setting up the foundation (building up 2.0s' etc)

Always try to get Aged domains. It helps make the authority site "authority".
I recently bought a 15 year old 6 letter domain (Brandable) for about $30.

Even with an aged domain, unless you got 100 articles - it's going to take time. I've registered it for 5 years and hopefully I'm looking to see a ROI in the first year. Thanks for the tip tho :-)

The rankings keep dancing, not surprised though. Build around 50 backlinks so far in the past two days so they should get indexed soon, we'll see the results by then.

Twitter has been going great, 72 followers so far. Been working hard on the other social networks (pinterest, stumbleupon and facebook) and I'm starting to see some traffic coming in from these networks.

Earnings
Right now I see no points in revealing earnings on a daily basis due to the website still being new but it's ranging from 1-5$ daily. Hopefully I'll get a more stable increase within the next couple of weeks.

Upcoming plans
Plan is to get the second website up to this weekend, it seems my article writer is sick so it will have to wait (I write 50% of the articles and outsource the rest). I got another four articles to add to the website tonight, though - should I drip-feed them or add them all at once?

Yeah I was thinking of doing that 2 articles per week to keep the blog 'fresh' in Googles eyes. Thanks! :)

Hey there. So far I haven't done any massive link-building, so the rankings are based solely on the content. On-page SEO I'm doing the usual:


  • 2-3% keyword density.
  • <h1/h2/h3> tags correctly.
  • Interlinking it with other articles.
  • So far I have a total of 6 published articles and 4 in a queue (2 articles weekly) and my plan is to keep that up for about 6 months.

I've never actually had any major issues ranking websites with content alone, links tend to come natural. Though the plan for this one is to-do a couple of web 2.0's (got 5 up so far).

Other than that, I'm focusing a lot of my time building up social networks (facebook and twitter in particular) since the original plan is to turn the website into an authority website within 6 months.

It's been quite good. Especially my second keyword (~3$ CPC) has jumped way up. Hopefully I'll start seeing some effects from my web 2.0's soon and backlink-building.

Upcoming plans
It's Friday! Tonight is drinking. I did manage to get 5 more articles which I've started to drip-feed every 3 days now to the website to keep it fresh.
 
22th of April
So it's been three days now. Rankings are still dancing heavily (10-100+ spots) especially when my web 2.0s' started getting indexed, hopefully it will settle down soon. 8 articles are published and 3 more in the queue, most likely going to up that to another 10 articles to drip throughout the coming month. Also been focusing a lot on social signals - facebook (573 likes), twitter (111 followers) and Google+ (104 recommends) since I think it's going to be more and more important in the future due to the nature of backlinks.

I'm a bit disappointed in myself since I still haven't been able to get my second website up, something I plan on fixing today. My third site should be up as well within 48 hours, can't prolong it anymore + I'm focusing way too much time on website 1 (chances are it might not pay off as well), gotta keep my alternatives open.

For some reason I got some really strong rankings @ Bing and Yahoo with #1-5th places while Google is currently at #40-80 (when checked 1h ago).

Finally got my second website up - I'm a bit more eager on this one. The first one is monetized on AdSense alone (informational niche) while the second one focuses on a type of product which means I'm focusing a lot more on Amazon Associate.

Starting off the website with 5 articles with 7 articles in queue over the coming 2-3 weeks. My biggest concern right now is my backlinking strategy - so far it hasn't yielded any exciting results for my first website despite building 5 unique web 2.0's and building up a strong social network. Any tips?
 
You will need to wait longer then 2-3 days to see jumps in ranking. Keep building up back links steadily and you will start to notice changes after the first week or so.
