Authority Niche Site Project (Amazon & Adsense)

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my journey building an authority niche website. The reason I'm sharing this here is to track my progress and success/failures and to keep me motivated.

What have I done so far?
I started this project maybe half a year ago, mostly based on trial and error. I have not yet figured everything out - especially when it comes to building backlinks there's a lot to be learned for me.

The website itself attracts around 30'000 visitors a day and currently generates about 200$ to 300$ a month.

I'm happy with the setup and the look & feel of the website as it currently is. So what I focus most of my efforts on is researching keywords, getting posts written and building backlinks. I try to outsource most of it but I don't have any particular service that I can recommend as I switch them often.

The only paid tool that I'm using is LongTailPro, even though I've been wondering about its accuracy lately.

What's next?
In order to generate a little bit of momentum I will start posting updates about my current progress and about what I'm working on.

According to your title, you're using adsense on your Amazon niche site too. Is that correct? Because most of the times using Adsense on an Amazon niche site is a big no-go.
Further, I am very interested in your journey, since I actually started my own Amazon niche site moments ago :D
 
with 30k of users per day you can make $300 daily
not sure what is with your setup/site or traffic, but you can make much more profit

Yes, that's true. I have some articles that target high CPC keywords and others that target Amazon products. I personally think that they don't interfere as I usually have long 1'500+ words articles and it doesn't look cluttered with ads. But depending on performance I might settle more on one or the other in the future.
 
All the best buddy, keep at and keep improving the site. Whatever you do, do not give up. Its a small % of people that succeed and that small % happen to be the ones who never gave up.

Ah, that's why the confusion! Sorry my mistake. It's 30'000 per month.

Stats for last week

Visits: 8’500
AdSense: 20$
Amazon: 27$
Expenses: 0$

Plans for next week
  • publish an article that I’ve been working on for quite some time
  • order some web 2.0s for a recently published article
  • replace one Adsense text ad with an image ad to see if this increases performance
  • research keywords for a new article
I’m starting a list with all the backlink services that I’ll order. I mark down the keyword, the initial SERP position as well as the position at delivery and one month later. By doing this, I try to figure out what works best for me.
 
Update 2

Stats for last week

Visits: 8’400
AdSense: 18$
Amazon: 27$
Expenses: 56$

I’m happy that I could almost sustain the view count and the income from last week despite holiday season. My traffic on the 25th was the lowest since months.

Overall Profit

Income: 92$
Expenses: 56$

I track this because I currently want to reinvest everything I earn.

What I did last week
  • ordered a new set of keywords for a new Amazon related article and some web 2.0s to an older article
  • optimized ad placement: replaced the text ad below the first paragraph with a responsive image ad; replaced the Adsense ad in the sidebar with sticky, floating Amazon native shopping ad; added a side-wide Adsense anchor ad for mobile
  • published a new article
The change didn’t had a significant impact on either Adsense or Amazon performance.

Plans for next week
  • order a new article and publish it if I receive it on time
  • get some more keywords
  • update social media channels at least two times
  • rework privacy policy and disclaimer

Congratulations! I've been strongly considering an Amazon affiliate site myself and to see your already making a steady $200-$300 after 6 months is quite inspiring.

I'm most interested in the fact that you've outsourced almost everything. I planned on also doing the same. If you can recall, would you elaborate a bit on your expenses to date (articles, hosting, SEO, etc)?

Hey! Good luck with the journey! I'm about to start an Amazon authority site as well once I snag the keywords I ordered.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to structure the site though so I figured I'd ask you! Do you use top 10 product style reviews or...? If you don't mind letting me peek at the site (or maybe a generic mockup?) I would appreciate it. I'm not looking to steal any ideas or compete with you. I'd just like to see the layout / structure of a site that's converting.

Thanks for your comment. Yes that's true, I outsource everything I can. There are a lot of reasons for it but I guess the main ones are scailability and saving time. And now, that I generate some money with it, I see no reason to do everything on my own.

Keep in mind that this is my first project and I didn't track my expenses from the beginning. The initial costs included the hosting, a new domain, a premium theme and the Thrive Content Builder plugin. That's maybe 100$ all together.

From then on I was just reading a lot and trying things out. Orderd some articles here and there, wrote a few on my own. Same goes for keyword research and backlinks. But keep in mind that my site is still very small. I have about 10 - 12 articles.

Good luck with your Amazon website, I'm currently thinking about starting small second project.

I don't have a fixed template for the content. I'm trying out different things. Most of the articles are Best X for Y, I guess. Some question posts, etc. depending on the keyword.

I'll send you a couple the links of a couple authority websites that I'm trying to mimic via PM.

Thanks for the good wishes and the links! I appreciate you taking the time to do that, and it's nice to see someone in a journey being helpful to other as well.

Most would dodge a question like mine, but I'm always so curious about site structure when it comes to my projects. I know I can do A and B testing (which will be done anyway), but why not get a foundation first from someone who is succeeding!
