Authentic Chinese Tea

My Chinese/American wife and I have been selling (authentic) Chinese Tea for a while now, through channels in Europe. We are ready to take the next step and want to sell Chinese Tea to the rest of the world.

Our original idea is to sell "bulk" to distributors at very reasonable prices.

As we have access to the biggest markets in Shanghai, Yunnan and Fujian, we can basically get every kind of tea you can imagine.

The tea will be shipped in either the form of a "Cake" or in loose leafs.

We dont have any MOQ as such, but we recommend people to buy at least 1kg in order to get the most economical shipping rates. This can be mixed sorts.

We also sell samples of all our Tea's, each sample contain 6-7g of tea.

We usually ship the same day as we receive the order and shipping time varies from 6 to 14 days from China. We provide tracking numbers for all shipments.

Chinese Tea sells very well online, but even better off-line.

Well, I think there is zero profit to be made. E.g. you say Long Jing Green Tea is $5 for 2 oz? I suppose this is even without shipping ....

3.5 (!) oz price on ebay is $9.99, so for 2 oz I can hardly charge more than maybe $6, so if I buy for $5 and sell for $6 where is my profit? I even will have to add shipping and ebay fees, so I LOSE money ....

First of all we need to realize that eBay is not always what it seems to be. We also need to realize that there are several grades of long jing green tea. Prices wary greatly depending on the grade and the time of harvest. The origin of the tea plays a huge part too.

A blue t-shirt also cost anywhere between $5 and $200
An article in BHW market place cost anything between $3 and $25
500g of coffee cost anywhere between $5 and $XX

Price/cost cannot be carved in stone, there are many factors in play.

Have a look around the tea retailers online and see what they sell 2oz for, not to mention what it cost offline.

Yes, this is right. Maybe your tea is of better quality than his. But the problem on ebay is alway that most buyers go for cheapest price if products are the same.

Of course, a blue t shirt made cheaply in an Indian factory has not the same price as a LV or Armani t shirt, and some cheap coffee has not the same price as kopi luwak.
But it is really really difficult on ebay to make any sales if price is too high. Imagine there is one seller, he already sold 30 for $10 each, with positive feedback. His listing is on top of search results. At the moment there are 140 offers for long jing green tea. Now I came as a new seller, none sold, none feedback, and I list for $20. So where will my listing be in search results? Somewhere on page 2, where nobody is going to search for it.

Of course prices are way higher on tea shop sites or in offline stores, but the problem is, I do not have a tea website and also no offline store. So the only way for me to sell is eBay and amazon. Amazon is even worse, I do not get my money immediately but weekly or even only every 2 weeks, so I always have to pay you in advance with my own capital. Next, if the buyer decides to return the product, I already paid you, but I do not get my payment from Amazon, so my money is lost.

For ebay, if you could send me some pictures and descriptions, I always could try some test listings in order to see if I can sell there and for which price.
