Any ideas where I could buy to reduce the 3 - 6 week shipping time on goods, any niche would be great

Are you planning to start store to ship worldwide or just specific countries ?
when your expecting quick shipping it would cost you.
Rather than try postal service with good packing which is cheap always.

What platform are you selling on?
There are some products which are available locally on aliexpress in AU warehouses, these generally have 1-2 week delivery time frames.
Also now with the release of Amazon Australia, you can dropship from there (but be aware of the amazon packaging).
It's hard for Australia as there isn't much information available for local suppliers. Here are some i bookmarked awhile ago.

Be aware that some sites that offer "dropship service" are actually dropshippers themselves.

Is it dropshipping from another country to Australia? Or dropship from Australia to worldwide?
