Moved to Australia. Any tips on Broadband providers, they all seem pretty useless as in 250GB cap!

Also any tips on other niches etc?

Can't help with the enquiry but as we don't get many aussies here.... thought to myself....break the ice a bit......send him a message in a bit of aussie slang.....so looked on G for a few slang words.....

Holy Sh*t.....page after page of them.....it's a whole different language.....!! (No offence mate...!)

try tpg,i think it has no limit but it is adsl 2+

still telstra is best for cable broadband
 
yea i second whirlpool forums. You should get all the answers you need there.

Im on TPG unlimited ADSL 2+ . It goes well enough.

Where in Oz have you moved too? And from where?
 
Hey mate! TPG is deffinately the way to go if you can live with adsl2+. Myself, I am with Telstra on cable plan. I get 200 gig for 80 bucks a month and im sure there are higher plans you can go on. I know its nothing like what you can get overseas but in the next year or two when the national broadband plan rolls out we should get some major upgrades on speed and plans :)
 
Thanks for all the replies, I'm near to Melbourne, the entire cell network and broadband network is a little behind to say the least! lol

I'm keen for FAST speeds, not hugely concerned over the cap, however, downloaded over 100GB in a DAY before, so 250GB is NOTHING to me... slightly worried...

oh also guys on TPG can you send over your results on here from:

I'm using a connection at the moment on Telstra Big Pond it's resulted in:

download speed: 7.19mbs
upload speed: 0.32mbs

Guess my demonoid.com ratio is gonna get fucked living here! lol
 
Telstra are useless. Very small limits.

have TB limits if you are willing to pay for them. Nothing is unlimited out here.
 
In looking I've found 2 unlimited deals:

http://www.tpg.com.au/

and

http://www.dodo.com.au/public.aspx

both offer unlimited downloads on ADSL+2

also TPG offer pretty good mobile deals too...

Mobile phone deals are so crap here too!
 
I'm with IInet and have been for 9 years. They are probably the leading supplier IMO.

As for niches, you'll find that the overall quality of SEO in local niches is pretty poor. Makes it easy to pickup a few clients.

IINet look good - more professional than either TPG and Dodo, however, how are you guys getting by on capped download amounts?!! I can use a 250gb download in a day!

Sunshine isn't an issue here :) At least that's one thing that's free and uncapped! :)
 
I think TPG have a few asterisks when it comes to their unlimited plans - beware before your locked into a 24 month contract.

Check the whirlpool forums for the best info
 
I'm on TPG $60 a month ADSL2+ unmetered.... so far so good. I have had no problems with TPG.

Vodafone has also just recently introduced mobile plans, $45.00 per month for unlimited local and nation calls to mobiles and landlines, and also unlimited text / mms to local, national and international phones, plus some interest usage, etc.

Check it out.

p.s Krzysiekz - can you share with me your speed test with TPG? People seem to back away from sharing their download / upload speed. It'd be a real help on deciding... Thanks

Telstra NextG is hardly 'behind' :p World leading more like it :p

Telstra is also the reason broadband is 'behind' in Australia, lol?

The size of the country and the sparse population means that infrastructure is too expensive and not lucrative enough to install.

Avoid Dodo at all costs. TPG offers big downloads but from what I have heard they don't offer the best service. Most others offer relatively low downloads but the speeds are fine.

iiNet and Internode are the 2 reputable competitors to the bigger Telstra and Optus. Optus has really increased the limits on their broadband packages and their cable service is great.

I swapped back to them after iiNet caused me grief (and a sub 512kbps service for 12 months while paying for ADSL2+.

Whirpool is the best place to look for up to date info though.
