Auction and retargeting domain

I purchased a domain at auction with the intention of redirecting and transferring authority to another domain.

But I was wondering what the best strategy would be.

Because my current domain is weak and has zero authority. What is better:

- Transfer all content to the auction domain and then redirect the old to the new
- Or simply redirect the auction domain to the one that already exists?

What do you recommend me?

It depends.

For a 301 to work you have to justify the redirect. Remember, 301 = switching from URL1 to URL2. Can you justify that? If so, then go ahead. If not, then there's a very strong chance that this is not going to work like you want it to.

There's also the possibility that it may totally fuck up your site. I have seen a lot of 301s totally destroy some sites in the past. It's not that there was something wrong w the domain, the owner just got greedy and 301d a domain to an already ranking site. The pattern is always a surge in traffic followed by a strong decline.

One way people use 301s is to redirect to category pages. E.g. if you have a site pets.com, and you find a strong domain dogs.com, then you can redirect to pets.com/dogs and that makes sense in terms of URL1 > URL2. However, I wouldn't do this kind of stuff on a site that is already ranking and making money.

Finally, remember that 301s used in this fashion are 100% blackhat. It may work right now but at any point in time the algorithm could improve and detect this kind of stuff and then shit just hits the fan.

The better way is to use the domain, restore it and build a fresh site on it. This works for me 100%, and if done right even a manual analysis couldn't reveal whether the domain is being leveraged solely for its power, or if the intent to restore was actually geniune.
