You do realize you can block ahrefs, moz, majestic etc from showing your backlinks, right? Which I'm sure is exactly what he's doing.

Furthermore, I highly doubt you were talking to the guy and he asked you to make a post trying to uncover his method for ranking. Why would he risk potentially revealing his blueprint?

1. He is most likely blocking most of his main power links (PBN) from the usual bots.. which is probably why you don't get much data on his links.

2. He also seems to have a few links pointing from the root domain, etc - which may be also helping.

The game is only out for a week or so. You can block all the backlink checking websites and on top of that, his site is going to probably be new enough that the backlink tools might not have even crawled his backlinks anyway.

Just tried sharing that link in my pokemon facebook group and it got flagged as potentially dangerous

When you have little links pointing away, you usually keep more juice, right?

As Leith and Dagrevon said above, PBNs and more PBNs, no doubt.

Most of the times, yes that's correct. If you have fewer OBL on the page, it makes each one of those OBL's more effective. If you had 50 outgoing links on a page, there's not much juice going to each one of them (unless the site was an authority).

In the case of the above Pokemon site, the guy is linking from his homepage (which looks very strong according to Maj) to the Pokemon subpage and I'm sure this is carrying over a lot of juice to the subpage and it could be one of the bigger reasons why he's ranking top.

PBN's for sure. And you sound a little butthurt OP.. if you're going to go after number 1 spot, at least know HOW the guy you're trying to beat is ranking. Sheesh.

* I actually said this in another thread but I'll say it again just now to anyone considering entering this exact same niche.

It's not easy. Don't waste money on links if you're not going to be consistent with it. This isn't a niche you're going to rank for with a few hundred dollars. Most of the sites on Page 1 are most likely owned by guys who have heavy pockets to spend and don't mind investing thousands to begin with until they rank. Yes, Pokemon Go is popular as hell - and yes, you could probably make thousands with a fake hack site for the game.. but it's not going to be easy. I had about 4-5 people message me today on Skype asking me how many links they need to buy from my PBN service in order to rank. IT'S NOT THAT EASY. It's a competitive niche (probably going to end up being more competitive than COC) - so unless you have patience, resources and plenty of $$$ to invest, avoid the niche.

This is something i know is going to happen. Creating sites on popular games like this, without huge investment is plainly a waste of time. Thanks for clarifying this. I will be going through this niche, and see if social network traffics will help.

Great and honest input unless you try to rank yourself for those kw´s :D

Cheers

It's one of the most competitive trend nowadays, i think.
So if you want to run new Pokemon website, you should find some longtail keywords. It will be much easier to put them to 1st page.

LOL he ranks at page 7 and not even there is ti at #1, the only way I can see that he would show up as ranking #1 is if he was logged in to google when he showed you and has done a) alot of clickthroughs him self or b) visited the site a lot while being logged into google (wouldn't be that strange a thing to do since it's his site)
