Assistance to my seo game plan?

Hi,

I have been trying to rank for a competitive keyword for around a month now, i'm hovering around the 7/8th page now, which is up from the 12th! However,
even with a good, but not potentially harmful level of SB backlinks, its not changing.
I know it takes time, but i was wondering if there were any other good methods to explore, for example, i've heard a lot about profile links but i'm not really sure how to go about it?

P.s.
I have used RSS feeds, submitted to directories and written, some, but not a lot of articles.

Any help would be much appreciated

SB blasts isn't much of a plan. The article directories help.
