Can we please deal with the members who ask for 'thanks' after every post?

I fear that their only motivation in asking for this is that they hope that a high post count and a high level of thanks will get them into priviledged areas where they can scam the members here.

I am seeing an increase of posts that are asking for thanks.

People will click the thanks button or they wont. Knock it off.

Maybe we can just do away with the thanks button altogether?

If we did away with the Thanks button, they'll just ask for Rep.

Trust me, we've tried every angle, there's no surefire way to balance it all out. All we can do is punish people for asking for Rep/Thanks whenever we see it by removing any Rep/Thanks they've received because of it.

nah, I think asking for thanks is ok and fine. Sometimes when someone posts something great, they don't get much thanks, even by members who really appreciates that contribution. Asking for thanks, like ''click thanks if you find this useful'', reminds the reader of the thanks function, and hence it gives some kind of incentive to post something better.

in another situation, if someone posts something completely useless, even if he asks for thanks, he's unlikely to get any. BHW members are not retards.

If the member really appreciated the contribution they would hit thanks or say thanks. If you're truly appreciative why would you need a reminder to thank someone? We aren't fucking retarded.

Completely agree. I have seen some thread with the second post is : "xx views, xx download, but 1 thanks??"

Hell, I don't even imagine what is the purpose for they who did that. If you give a great contribution, people will always give you thanks. No need to begging, even moaning like my first sentence.

I've been in many circumstances when I see a real great post, and just move on after that, forgetting to say thanks.

When at the end there is a reminder, I tend to click thanks more. Yes, people do forget, the thanks button is a small button at the corner of the box.

If that is the problem, can staff make that thanks button bigger? I think that is enough, and you don't need to begging for more thanks.

I agree totally. Begging 'thank me' is the equivalent of 'review copy please'. We definitely don't want to go down that road.

wtf..let this thread die. If someone is askign for thanks like he's spamming, report it. If not, let it go.

what's wrong with asking for thanks?

i think it's sad that pple should ask for it, and that not enough people give it....

I completely agree! Asking for thanks is lame and it's gotten so bad that someone will make a post that isn't even something that needs thanking and yet they will have 2 or 3 thanks on it. What's the point of using thanks or rep if people are just going to give it out like it's nothing?

Why should thanks that you have to ask for count?

Why would you want thanks you have to ask for?

Its an incentive to encourage people to post useful things. The system may have flaws, but as of now, it is still very effective. I rarely see people with lots of thanks which is undeserved.

Coincidentally, most of the members in this thread has little thanks in comparison with the number of posts... lol

Yep...especially you...

yes, at least I don't go around complaining and wanting an ''adult only'' forum because I just hate kids, and don't want to donate coz...bla..bla..bla

WTHell are you talking about? lol...you must be drunk or hallucinating or something...but you are entertaining...LOL

BHW members are not retards, but they are people. And advertising works for people. Just like asking for thanks will provide more thanks for that particular post.

Anyway, I do not quite understand the incentive in the thanks system or rep system. I just don't get it. Or the post count thingy.

What do people achieve if they will have 1000 of Thanks? Or 2000 posts? Will they have more money in their account? Will they have more knowledge on some subjects. Hell no .... but this is one thing that I won't understand in internet culture.

PLEASE PRESS THANKS FOR THIS POST! :p
