Just starting out blogging and i understand the plugin usage and flexibility of using self-hosted sites as compared to hosting it on wordpress.com

Just a newbie question.. which should i use, Bitnami or WAMP?

Is WAMP the preferred way to go for the long run? Or Bitnami is the way to go for a newbie?

Appreciate your inputs on this.

Thanks in advance.

Why would you want to host on your own server? Why not just but shared or private hosting?

Self hosting on your own PC has many downsides

1) Security
2) Bandwidth
3) Up time

It's just not worth the hassle unless you have a really good reason to want to do it

My apologies for the miscommunication..

What i meant to do was.. to host the website somewhere so that i can fully utilise the plugins and themes.. as compared to hosting it on wordpress.com

Like i mentioned earlier, this is pretty new to me.. looking forward to learning more from u guys..

Out of the two, I prefer WAMP.

However, you are wanting to use it to host your own website? Bad idea. To self host your own site, get or build a spare computer and run linux on it. Install and setup apache, mysql, and php on it. When hosting sites on a Windows machine, you will have a lot of unexpected downtime.

Seriously though, your looking to start a website, and your on BHW so your probably looking to make money online. Every business takes money to make money. Go to hostgator, pay $10/month for web hosting. You will be so much happier.

Why is it everyone is scared to spend money? I understand not wanting to spend a lot of money if money is tight, but you can't expect to do everything for free. The break comes from learning what is worth spending money on, and what is a waste of money. Good executive business decisions.

I think I understand :) Any of the shared hosts will do Hostgator / Bluehost (there are hundreds). I prefer Hostgator but for a WP blog almost anything will do.

If however you're going to use many Autoblogs on the same hosting account a dedicated server / vps / multiple shared accounts would be best to avoid being shut down due to excessive resource usage.

OP, how come you've become a Jr. Vip when you joined in March 2011 only

He donated, ie: paid BHW money for JR VIP Donor status.

to test your plugins and themes, i suggest you to try XAMPP on windows machine. much easier than wamp.
