[ASK] Promoting iTunes Music

I have a friend who is a musician. He does not have any official website as yet. He sells his music on iTunes.com

He was asking me to tell him some ways to promote his sales or create better visibility (that is better reach) to his music atleast.

I suggested:

* Upload part of music on Youtube and buy Youtube promotion packages
* Create a FB Page and promote that as well
* Create web 2.0 links with links to the music sales pages on itunes.com

What else can you think of?

He can also hire someone to be the one promoting his music.

Tell him to check out purevolume.com (and if he wants some promotion on there, I can do that, check my site in my sig).

do you think a myspace account will help too?

I've been playing around with this myself(one of the main reasons i've come across this site). A really good site to use is Soundcloud, I've setup some of my groups older music on the soundcloud site /insomniacfunk and have been slowly building up a following, mainly i've used the follow/follow back method on Soundcloud, along with submitting my site to Stumble, traffic and play has been slow but at the same time I haven't spent much time on it. I look at promoting music as a long term project, I don't have any music on Itunes yet, the way I see it is if my music doesn't drive enough plays for free on a site like Soundcloud it's not worth getting into Itunes Etc at this point. Soundclouds my measuring stick. Say one of your tracks blows up on Soundcloud and gets 100 000 plays, then its time to move over to Itunes and start charging. The thing with Music is you can't really trick people, if it sucks it sucks, and if it's good it sells. Most of the music I have up is older, personally I try to only get better with time and expect to drive traffic as the music improves.

Aside from Soundcloud I've been using twitter to network with other artists, with twitter I'll find a group or artist similar to mine and just start hammer following his followers.

Anyways if anyone else has any tips I'm also looking for unconventional ideas for online promotion.
