Ask Me Anything about selling on eBay

Does buying low and selling high on e-bay still work? I remember this was a method a couple of years ago.

Ok what answer do you give the bank teller or bank manager when they ask why do you want to open a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th bank account?

Also are savings account's working fine with stealth Paypal accounts for you?

1. Having multiple bank accounts is perfectly legal. The teller won't care unless you are violating bank policy.

2. I have not had any problems using a savings account, but I try to keep number of transactions low just in case.

Thanks but I'm curious to know what answer do you give the person that works at the bank when opening another account when they ask?

Do you just say I enjoy banking here so I want to open another account?

I would guess no for most items. Price discovery is a lot more efficient now, so any item that has such price discrepancies would be quickly burned out.

Just say you're opening a separate account to save up for a vacation or something.

toml3030 have you ever had any problems with Paypal releasing funds after 180 days on a limited USA stealth account?

I never had paypal problems, because small % of what I sell is high risk. All the problems I've ever had on were from eBay side, not paypal.

Dude, YOU JUST STARTED A THREAD RECRUITING SELLERS ON EBAY. Are you retarded or making a sad attempt at scamming people? At least if you're going to scam people put some effort into it.

For those who haven't chatted me me...

Been selling on eBay/Amazon/Etsy/Bonanza/eCrater/own website since 1999
Longest live stealth account from 2007
Expected sales of $600,000 with 55% gross margin in 2015 across 20-30 stealth accounts plus 2 legit ones
4 legit LLC's filing taxes
Import from China, Philippines, Vietnam, Korea plus producing domestically
Drop ship for others

As you can see, I am pretty vertically integrated (have had a hand in every thing from production of goods to selling on my own account without outside help).

My ecommerce philosophy is to always prepare for the long run, and to do it right from the beginning so that there are no problems down the road. Generally, you should not ask me to spoonfeed you answers like "If X happens, do Y", since policies and conditions change. You should learn how to think so that you can come up with answers on your own.

10 Commandments of Running Stealth eBay Accounts

1. Thou shalt never give reason for humanoid eyes of eBay drones to scrutinize your account. The human mind wants to see patterns in a steam of data. Less human contact with eBay means less chance for eyeballs to link your accounts.

2. Thou shalt use separate everything for each eBay account...and that means EVERYTHING (name, address, credit card, bank account).

3. Thou shalt keep all your DSR's above 4.6 and defect rate below 5%, as those are the magic numbers where you go "below average" and subject yourself to MC999 selling restrictions. Also don't forget that the defect rate has to be below 5% in BOTH your domestic and global ratings.

4. Thou shalt always keep in mind that even the lowest minion at eBay can escalate something which leads to your account closure. That means that even a snarky note on their customer survey may lead to a cascade of events that lead to your account closure.

5. Thou shalt remember that 50% of buyers on eBay are idiots who won't read your listings. You must include as much information into the pictures and title as possible, since that's what half the people will make their buying decisions on.

6. Thou shalt always contact customer to let them know if there are problems. NEVER let customer find out that their is a problem by package not being delivered on the day they're expecting it. Vast majority of people are understanding if you explain it to them before they are aware that there is even a problem.

7. Thou shalt not cut corners. Building a successful long term eBay account requires patience of a saint. There are no real short cuts other than your product being as described, the price being right, quick shipment and customer service.

8. Thou shall always promise less than what you can deliver. Never promise something to a customer and not come through.

9. Thou shall not compete with chinese sellers who can make a living off 25 cent profit per sale.

10. Thou shall shut up and read free information available on the internet and follow its teachings. Like anything on internet 99% of what is written is repetitive or useless, but the 1% makes up for it.

Hey so I wanted to get a merchant account and wanted to add it to my ebay account BUT it is a stealth account. Do you know if that would be an issue?

Generally to get a merchant account that can process credit and debit cards you would have to go legit with a corporation. If you get a legit corporation you should be able to open a merchant account and link it to eBay.

One more question. I have a new stealth account on eBay and they put a small limitation on the number of times i can post an item for sale in a certain category.

If I wanted to wait the 90 days until they remove it completely I could. OR it says I could confirm my personal information through PayPal verification.

The issue is, is that my eBay account is stealth and my PayPal account that is linked is not stealth but my own personal account.

Long story short, is it okay for me to confirm my personal information through paypal even though the information is totally different or will they flag my account? Need to know if I should just wait the 90 days or risk the suspension

Is ebay alive still?

When in doubt, wait it out. That pretty much goes for anything on eBay/Paypal. It may work right now but you don't know when it will become an issue, since eBay and Paypal still share data. You don't want to be in a position when your account is 10x bigger having to explain why your eBay info is totally different than your paypal info. When any sort of money laundering suspension is involved, paypal will be quick to ban. Many people mistake it as being Paypal being dicks but it's actually because the government can bring down a lot of legal fire down on Paypal if they suspect Paypal as complicit in money laundering.

Hi Toml3030, I hope everything goes well with you and hope you can solve my puzzle.

My paypal recently got permanently suspended a week ago, however my ebay (since 2005, over 2k+ feedbacks, 97.4%, no limitation on sale volume and amount) is still alive and it's still in very good standing. I suspect my paypal suspension was due to two recent chargebacks against me. Items I sell on ebay included fake branded items importing from china and other non-branded items.

I want to know if I can link a new paypal (new ip, cpu, bank, credit card) to my current ebay account?
Should I ask paypal to reinstate my account after 6 month to a year? Considering that majority of my negative feedbacks will be erased.

Thanks
Rick

If it was just for chargebacks, they would probably just have put a 21 day hold on the funds.

It's much more likely that they suspended you for multiple complaints about receiving fakes.

Chances are the linked eBay account will eventually go down. I would just link a new paypal and keep selling but be prepared for both to go down at any time.

Remember.... Feedbacks do not matter. You were not banned for seller performance issues but because you were accused of selling fakes. Those kinds of bans are usually never reversed. I suppose you have nothing to lose by calling and asking but I would immediately start working on stealth accounts going.

My follow up to your comments above:

(1) Paypal permanently "limited" my account and they put a 180 day hold on my fund. I'm think the chance of having my paypal reinstated is slim.

(2) I remember there were a total of four cases. Two of those were chargebacks, and the other two were complaints about receiving fakes.

(3) You may be right, chances of my linked ebay might eventually go down. But my situation is more complicated than that. Let me tell you more: My gf’s ebay acct (500+ feedback, different address) was suspended a year ago for selling fakes on this same computer (same cpu/ip). I understand ebay can tell we are the same person. However, the interesting thing is, ebay combined my gf’s selling limit with my ebay acct. Isn’t that weird! Now, my gut is telling me that my ebay acct won’t go down easily and I think ebay wants me to sell more. What’s your thought on this? Also please help below:

Do I create a new paypal with same name or different name (what about just a different first name)? Will bank accept any payment I transfer from my paypal acct?

The reason I ask this is because ebay’s registered name/address can easily be changed. I have done that in the past. I don’t know if I do it again to match my paypal name will raise any issues.

(4) If I get my account back, I will not sell anymore fakes with this account. I think it’s an ambush for not being a part of the game knowing that so many people are selling fakes.

You mentioned using all new details for each account. Could you share how to get addresses are you using PO boxes or do you have another method?

There are two types of addresses. Registration address and delivery address. Registration address can be anything. The delivery and ship to addresses you need to have access to. Here's the important thing. Duplicate registration address will pretty much get you instant ban. The delivery and ship to address eBay will overlook some overlap because people using 3rd party to receive mail. I've had 2-3 accounts using the same delivery address and have not had problems. Be aware that I manufacture my own branded products so I am at much lower risk than people selling vero items. Also this only works on eBay. Anything duplicate at Amazon will get you banned.
