The keyword is about "something" in a city in the US. I ensured that the Google SERPs do not have any .gov or Google place entries in the Page #1.

Would you consider this to be a good keyword? What more items would you suggest to be checked before investing on this keyword?

Think it's good. Follow me, competition is medium and if you have good strateries backlinking you will be in number 1 spot.

Important thing here is to analyze the on site/off site SEO factors of the top 10 sites ranking for that keyword.

Traffic Travis paid version does that, doesn't it? or is it Market Samurai?

And I am not planning to sell any products or use content lockers because this keyword does not suit either of them. This can be used only for adsense.

SEO check module is also available in free version of TT( version 4 is available) and yes, you can use MS as well. I personally use MS. If you use TT, don't trust the difficulty level rating given by the software. It is not accurate.
