for starters, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to blast them the offer right away. usually with a targeted niche you know what to say in series to clamp down some conversions.

So are your lists mostly free optins or are they buyers?
It seems to me, though I am no expert, that the easy part is making money once you have a list. The hard part is actually getting the list. Would you recommend giving away a free product/course?

Free optins but i spent a few thousand getting them. It's true a good list makes you money but there is plenty of stuff you can do to swell it up.
I have done many things in the past. seo, ewhoring, spamming, youtube, etc... but this seems to be the most consistent money to me and the fastest.

It's been said the best way to get going with Internet/Affiliate Marketing is to find something that interests you, such as a sport or hobby, then go about trying to take that knowledge and help others by solving their own problems within that specific consumer market...what would you say to someone who really finds the idiosyncrasies of Internet Marketing and all the little nuisances of how others go about earning a living online as the only real thing of interest to them and profiting from it?

This is a good question and I'll try to answer it as best as I can. One may conclude that the reason people are told as such is to keep them motivated long enough in that particular niche until they start turning profits.
Personally, I don't need any more motivation to make money. I can/will sell anything under the roof and all my other business partners and friends who make good bread will tell you the same thing. If it sells, we'll be on the block shouting our heads off.
Another reason people give this advice is because you won't have to do a ton of research in the niche you want to dominate. Again, if you really want money and know you can make it (and you all can!), then do some research.
