ashley madison hack?

A politican where I live got outed from the hack, and claims he was doing opposition research for a client from his law firm. Yet the account was in his own name and with his own crefit card.

i guess your friend didn't really tell you the truth, because the legit dump only contains the last 4 digits of the credit cards, plus it's not enough if you know the name of the card owner and the credit card number, you will need the security code too to be able to purchase anything with the card, at least on legit sites

Many single men also signed up for the service.

I had to investigate that fake female claim and found this:

In the suit, Doriana Silva of Toronto alleges she was hired to write Portuguese-language profiles for the Brazilian version of the site. She was paid $34,000 plus benefits, she claims. Her job consisted of creating 1,000 ?fake female profiles? in three weeks, to make men think there were more women willing to cheat with them than actually existed.

?The purpose of these profiles is to entice paying heterosexual male members to join and spend money on the website,? the suit says, according to Toronto's CityNews. ?They do not belong to any genuine members of Ashley Madison ? or any real human beings at all.?

That doesn't surprise me at all. I wouldn't be surprised if POF, Match, AFF, etc are doing this.

What does surprise me though is the suit doesn't claim this is illegal or even unethical. You really gotta wonder how many big sites got started this way. Create the allusion of users. Attract users. Monetize.

When is someone here going to make a site that is searchable by name? All they have so far are sites that are searchable by email address and username. Come on guys, someone do a site by name. I want to go on a dig without downloading that list!

Can someone explain please: I get it that "Ashley Madison" is a dating site for cheaters. What I am not sure of: Was this site really working? I always thought all of those dating sites are just fake..if so why would government people sign up for this or other "high profile users"? So did real hookups happen over that site??

Most users probably didn't have a hookup,since the vast majority of real users were men, very few women were on the site.
