At the moment I'm using a theme which allows me to list amazon products on it.

To add these products I go to "add new post" - and the newest ones automatically go onto the homepage.

But now I want to add some articles to the site for SEO - but i don't want these articles taking up all of my homepage.

So is there a plugin or something ?

I'd like to have a widget at the side with the list of my articles if possible.

    Thank you.

Do a search for WP plugin (related post, recent post, random post) there are hundred of plugins out there just need to try them and see what works best for what your looking to do

If you want a list on the side full of articles why don't you make a side widget saying articles and instead they are actual pages with content and you can also list only a few pages instead of all of them but when people search they will find em along with being in Google... seems like a simple solution. I have been working with WP for over 5 years and can make it do cart wheels lol.

    That could work yes.

I just thought there would be a plugin or something...surely I'm not the only one wanting to do this.

Then select (or made the ones which were posted already) posts as STICKY. So only the ones selected can be shown on your homepage (of course you should adjust the number of posts to be shown on homepage too).

    Recent articles widget will help.

I have found out with experience 3-5 articles on the front page looks the best plus visitors like the layout due to the fact they don't have to scroll for ages to get to the bottom of the page to see more articles... everything looks more "organized".

@cdman - if you want me to set up your WP like I was talking about shoot me a PM and I can get it done tonight for ya for like $5.

I've tried doing it by Having 2 widgets (one with info such as contact us and another with articles)

At the moment both have the articles and the info ones.

But I put in what to exclude on each.I'm using permalinks so let's say my article is called :

    How to do this

And the permalink ends in how-to-do-this do I just copy and paste that into the info exclude box ? As I don't want articles there.

Sometimes I dont see changes on my site for an hour or two so it could be working but I just can't see it working yet.

Mate you say you are dealing with wp for 5 years and you even do not know about "recent posts" widget. What is to do with "renaming pages"?

And you say "..due to the fact they don't have to scroll for ages to get to the bottom of the page to see more articles"

Really haven't you heard of some plugins (or themes do that-woothemes-elegantthemes) putting summaries instead of full posts?

    And $5? for what?

    Do you REALLY know wordpress?

Enough. WTF are you talking about? What do you want? Where did permalink come from? Seeing your site's changes 2 hours later?

    clean cookies, use ccleaner.

And please rewrite your second post. Nothing is understood.

    Sorry I was rushing.

I think I have it now,I thought my post/page id would be letters but it's not,it's numbers.

Basically I made 2 widgets at the side which have ALL my pages listed and then used the "exclude" box to remove which ones I don't need there.

It's hard to explain as my theme is a bit different than most wordpress sites.

Do you know what sticky post is?

why are you dealing with pages? why don't you put "recent posts widgets" on the sidebar?

And for permalinks, use custom permalinks %postname%

Or maybe I do not understand anything here. Do as you like mate...:)

    Tbh,no I don't.

Can't put recent posts on the sidebar as all my recent posts get put on the homepage. Maybe a sticky post would help ?

And yes that's what I use for my permalinks. When I use a custom permalink the page Id is still a number though isn't it ?

Edit - got it working :) might be a weird way to do it,but it's working and that's all I wanted.
