Hello pals, I'm an article writer for more than a year now. A couple of days back, I wrote a few articles for a guy & he mailed me earlier today that the content was copied.

I did CS check & they were all fine. When I reverted to the guy, he said, "I meant you were just rewriting the content that is already on the web."

OH dear, come on. He wanted me to write articles discussing the features of a software that I've never worked with. He liked my style & asked me to write for him. And now, telling me that I should not rewrite. Of course, I didn't rewrite plainly like a dumbass.

I got annoyed. I searched the content for his title on Google, Ezine & Wiki. I read about it, and wrote articles in my own words. Now, what's wrong there?

Any suggestion/opinion about this issue is welcome.

Sounds like maybe he just doesn't want to pay you. As long as your material passes Copyscape, that's all he can realistically ask for. Especially if he's paying a typical rate for the articles to be written.

He doesnt' want to pay.
I think this is the best explanation.
I had the same issue.

He's paid for the first batch on time. The rate was $1.3/100 words. But, he was expecting me to write something that's never been on web this time.. Quite a stupid!

He was so desperate for one among the three articles I wrote for him, this time. Just to get that one, he was baragaining with me for the other 2 articles. I know my articles are not rubbish to be sold at $0.5/100 words. I said "Don't pay or use any of them. I'm taking them back"

Why do you need suggestions mate? If you did not rewrite them, than it means they are not rewritten.

But if you had inspired so much from those sources you mentioned, then it is what your client says.

Well, I needed suggestions on how to deal with clients like him

If he refuses to pay you for them, blast them all over the internet. They will be useless to him is he is looking for original content.

What sort of suggestions are you looking for? He has cheated you that's it. I had a similar experience some time back. I met the guy via craigslist. He said to pay $2.5 per 300 words. I said yes, as I was in need of some cash. He promised me weekly pay. For my safety purpose i got his contact no. and address. I wrote articles worth approx $100 in a week. After one week he said to pay by next week, as he had some problem. I waited patiently but after one week what i got was just a mail, which said that your quality don't meet our standards, so these articles are rejected. I have all his details but I feel helpless. I think it as bad luck nothing else. :(

He's probably looking for you to write his thesis paper. ;) screw him. Give him a bad review if you can.

You can't call something like that as cheating, unless he used your articles & refuse to pay you.. You got back your articles, right? You could've used them in some other way pal

Update: The guy has finally paid. I'm sure he wanted that one particular article for the killing content & hence he's agreed to pay & take all of them.

Now, how do you handle things when you come across such guys? One who asks you to write something & finally refuse to accept the articles? Any input is appreciated

I forgot to mention but in fact those articles are posted on the net. I can give you live links of those articles. In fact, there are at least 4 other writers to whom that person has cheated. He has been branded as a cheater by craigslist.

Ouch.. Now, that's nasty. I guess you can file a complaint in such cases. Maybe someone could throw a light on this.. please!

Where to file a case for such a cheat? I have his name, contact number and address. I feel that I should file a police complaint against the person but still have not taken the ultimate decision. He mailed me on 17th July, just four days back. :(

why wasting your time doing extra works?

There is a very simple solution .. get paid up front before you even stroke a single finger across your keyboard ... also, in my case . . I never write for peanuts

One quality article can make thousands for the recipient so why get paid just a few bucks for that service ...

It's madness I tell you . .sheer bloody madness ...

It isn't doing extra work.. It is preventing your work being used by a cheap filthy ________

I forgot buddy.. But, you may find it by googling.. If not, consider a lesson learned.

When you deal with people, you always run the risk of being cheated. A lot of the people want free content even though they will be making money off of it. When dealing with a person, you could request up front payment. You might even do half up-front and half when the job is finished.

Have a great day!
