It depends of the directories. If i were you, I would look for contextual links(you can buy them for cheap, or even do it on your own), rather than submit articles to those spammy directories.
However, some of my friends are still doing automated submissions. Seems to be working so far, but don't know for how long.
It is useful, very useful as long as the content surrounding your link is on topic and well written and not duplicated or scraped. It's more difficult to produce but still worth it
Is AMR the best tool for submission? What about magic submitter, sick submitter?
I'm using GSA SER and SErobot. GSA seems to create nothing but spammy links. And SErobot doesn't have very high pr article directories.
