I have two articles, a Mckinney Power Widget Review and a Mckinney Super Widget Review.

The Mckinney Power Widget Review article is ranking in the top 100 Google SERPs for "mckinney power widget review" and "mckinney super widget review". The Mckinney Super Widget Review article doesn't rank for either keyword.

I'm trying to get both articles to rank in the top 100 for their respective keywords before I start building links, as I've read that this is the best approach.

I've checked the on-page factors for both articles, and everything seems good:
  • Main keyword included in the H1 and title
  • Only one H1 tag
  • Variation of the main keyword included in one H2
  • Keyword density is under 1%
  • Word count is around 800 words.
  • Meta description includes a variation of the main keyword
  • Related keywords are sprinkled throughout the article
  • Links out to other articles on the site
  • Links out to a related authority site
  • At the moment, there are no affiliate links in the article
I haven't built any links to these articles or the site/domain they're posted on. The site/domain is clean. I purchased it about a year ago and no one else had the domain before me. The articles have been up for a little less than a year.

Does anyone have any advice? Or is this just Google being crazy?

check if there is any exact or partial phrase of "mckinney super widget" used in the article of "mckinney power widget review".

It seems like your keyword density (1%) is too small. Don't change anything in the article that rank, but try to increase it to 2-3% for the article that doesn't rank, then put a link to this article from the article that rank.

Sometimes google is being crazy bro, I have a short article that can outrank official website, believe or not?

500 words x1 kw in header and x1 in article.

1200 words x1 kw in header x2 in article

3000 words x1 kw in header x3 in article .

you must have a image and a video on the page .

the header of the page usally a banner image

you need to use as much html or xhtml to seo the page properly.

with big articles need to break them up so use the h2 and h3 to add more keywords in the article.

when you add a link to point to a auth website , make sure your a couple of words before the keyword.

image and video must be main kw saved.

forgot add some html comments on the page with main kw

I tell you, sometimes all you have to do is not backlink or good SEO. Notice! Google loves his own product <-- clue
