Your strategy is good enought but it will be better to make a SEO linkwheel for your blogs. Because it will really help you out to get some organic traffic on your articles.
how many articles should i submit per day to an article directory so that it wouldn't look spammy?
Honnestly I think you're going way to complicated than it really needs to be. When I do keyword research, I just check for Broad or exact keyword match, and try to find really competitive keywords(mostly short-terms)
After that, I simply make that short-term keyword into a middle-long term one.
EXEMPLE:
initial keyword : Buy mazda 6
modified keyword: Buy yellow mazda 6 in texas
Remember that this is just one exemple,so don't go try out selling cars while only adding colors and location to the keyword.. lol
Anyway, I think you'll understand. By doing that, you'll have much more chanche to rank Num.1 in the SE.
P.S: This works really well when you put the ''middle-long-term'' keyword into your article title, or simply make it as your title.
P.S.S : KEEP IT SIMPLE
Hope this helps!

What do you mean by "hitting them with scrapebox links"?
A lot of you guys are talking about doing extra stuff after mass-submitting your articles. All I've been doing is submitting them, period. What are these extra steps, and what is their purpose?
Are you careful when you select your keywords and buy your domains that you don't infringe any copy write issues. I've had a few big name brands tell me to hand the website over to them before. How do you avoid that when looking for keywords? It would suck buying yellowmazda6 . info and have mazda ask you to hand it over.
