Not really sure what you mean by 'buggy'...
We use it on an industrial scale every day, and there's the odd lock-up at the end of a submission, where it doesn't refresh properly and you need to kill the process, but apart from that, it works like a charm.
The main problem most people have is an over bloated directory listing causing it to run like a dog. Because of it's directory storage and blacklisting system, it gets very slow with 10s of thousands of dir's - although this is supposed to be being fixed soon... Though I'm not holding my breath on that.
Keep your databases small by regular exporting of the good and moving them to a fresh/clean install/database. You can just back up the data diretctory after a fresh install and go back to that each time. Obviously you lose all articles/authors like this, but you can time it with the next author build run...
