Arrested for Fake WhatsApp Software!

Seeing as a lot of newbies here, especially in the Journey section, promote fake content and monetize it with content locking, this may make you think twice before creating another one of those apps.

A Spanish developer has been arrested for selling 'WhatsApp Spy', an app that claimed to allow you to spy on the messages of other users. That's a dubious enough proposal, and unsurprisingly the app required users to pay a premium price for the service, which then didn't work.
The story was reported by the Spanish Police on Twitter, saying apps like this are certainly criminal. In all, 11,000 users are said to have been affected, netting the developer around ?40,000 before his arrest. As well as getting money from app users, WhatsApp Spy also used the social media accounts of its users to advertise itself. Per user, the scam took between ?1.45 and ?7.20, a small enough amount that not many users complained (possibly out of embarrassment).

There is a difference between making people spend money and fill out a survey. That guy committed fraud the people with surveys are not committing fraud.

Easy on the people around here promoting fake content for making a living, it's their bread and butter. This matter is a lot different than what you meant to say.

There are several degrees of crimes and this was serious enough to warrant arrest order. They won't go out and spend all the resources on someone promoting some fake shit for an email submit.

Also, that is the worst developer in history, or he ain't one, just some drug dealer who ain't got any better to do in life.

I get your point, but there are some countries with no surveys available and PIN submits is the only way to monetize.
I guess they would have to disable those offers from showing on their lockers in order to stay safe then.

The site looks legit and is asking people to buy it instead of Filling up an offer. Is quite clear this is fraud and that guy could have easily get sued for that and its that keyword recieves 18k searches too

However I feel that people need to take care of what you are promoting on your site. Since you are using their Trademark to benefit yourself. Its risky but the safer way could be through Youtube if anyones wants to promote fake content. Or just go for offshore hosting with your content on the site and stay safe...
