YT make shorts thumbnails available in my channel and I started to upload AI slop like this

I think you need to enrich the content with truly stunning and beautiful images.
 
Yes, for some short videos, I used thumbnails. But I think short videos are the first 3/4 seconds very important to stay audience in your video. Short video hook is most important.
 
Yes, there's a lot of short content that also gets a lot of views from YouTube searches; thumbnails are very important.
 
hi i really think custom thumbnails can help but quality and originality matters the most or more.
 
I think using AI-generated images as thumbnails isn’t very effective.

For Shorts, I don’t put much weight on thumbnails since most views come from the Shorts feed. I’d rather spend the effort on the first second of the video than on an AI thumbnail.
 
Nobody clicks thumbnails on Shorts, they just swipe. Custom AI thumbnails do zero for the algorithm. The only numbers that matter are your first 2 seconds and getting retention over 80%. Stop uploading slop and fix your video pacing instead
 
Thumbnails on shorts don't work tbh. Whatever we select within the shorts video is what shows to the audience. 90% of the time, the thumbnails don't matter since the video watches is from the shorts feed.
 
No. I am not using thumbnails on YouTube Shorts. Is not necessary, I think. The first few seconds of short videos are very important.
 
yeah i’ve started paying more attention to shorts thumbnails now that YouTube is giving creators more control over them i think a good thumbnail can help with the first impression but the hook and retention still matter much more for Shorts
 
I think thumbnails are worth using now that YouTube gives us more control over them, but I wouldn't spend too much time on them for Shorts.
Most Shorts views still come from people swiping through the feed, so the first couple of seconds and retention probably matter much more. Thumbnails can still help when someone finds the video through search or visits your channel though.
I'd use them, but focus most of the effort on the actual hook and video.
